I just wanted to comment that it’s not as simple as disconnecting children from the internet and the world. The most important element to these kids and their high intellect and self-sufficiency is the presence of an educated and trained individual like their father who can safely and effectively and astutely guide them in all manner of self-education and self-reliance. If you don’t have that, I will point out to you that there are plenty of people in forgotten towns without reliable access to the internet who aren’t all that smart. Self-reliant, sure but….not capable of the kind of logic and higher thinking the characters display in the movie.

No, but to deny that it's one of the most incredible inventions in human history is delusional. Sure, not everything that has come from it is positive, but most of those issues can be avoided if educated on how to use it properly. Like many other things in the past, you shouldn't blame the invention when it's the people misusing it who are the problem. We did live without it for thousands of years, but that doesn't mean our lives haven't been significantly improved as a result of it. We are better off with it than without.

@tilled6695 that's simple objectively false. I get some people are all doomer and there's some areas where the internet has made some things very unhealthy, but to say every aspect of life has gotten worse is crazy. Especially when there's so many things that are easy to validate as improvements with one of the absolute biggest being the availability of information. That alone is so powerful that I shouldn't have to explain why there'd be so many obvious areas of life that are improved by that alone.

The scene in the supermarket had a specific purpose ... the heavily processed food is making people sick, like the morbidly obese customers in the restaurant. By not paying for that garbage, the kids won't support a broken system that is shaped by corruption, greed and exploitation - he let them eat it anyway, knowing forbidden fruits taste even sweeter and people tend to obsess even more!!!

@stonedscared8461 well... you're not wrong, but it's also more complicated than that. I'm not sure there is a record number of depressed children in modern society or not, but it's possible. Statistically there are a lot more but is that because it's more accepted for people to talk about these days and kids are more open? Or is it truly because depression levels have actually increased? When I grew up depression wasn't something people talked about and it was generally looked down on. As someone who has suffered from depression and tried to take my own life in the past, I think it's great that we live in a society that is more tolerant/understanding of the disease. Not to mention technology has connected us more and allows us to keep track of statistics better. That combined with depression being "accepted" and more openly talked about is definitely a factor as to why it seems like it might be a more prevalent issue. My own son started showing signs of it at a young age, but he doesn't just bottle his feelings up inside like I was conditioned to do, he openly talks about it and we work through his feelings. There's pros and cons to pretty much everything in life and while depression is definitely a major issue, we've made a lot of steps in the right direction. We've made some wrong ones as well though. So I'm not sure if there's actually more depressed people or not.

As they saying goes, “wish in one hand, and shit in the other, and see which one fills up first”. You’re a parent. Your kids only want to do that all day, because that’s how you’ve raised them. Easy to do what the movie did, when you don’t even give them any access to any of it. And no, it’s not making them any smarter. But once again, that’s supposed to be YOUR job as a parent. Instead of watching random videos and making random comments on social media lol. As another saying goes, “practice what you preach”, because I don’t think it’s making YOU smarter.

@@jamesbizsI agree, practice what you preach. I'd disagree with you that the internet isn't making kids smarter... the internet/TV aren't to blame and isn't the problem. How people raise their kids and teach them to use those TOOLS is the issue. My son is much smarter because of the internet as he uses it to educate himself on things that are interesting to him. Does he always use it in an ideal matter? No, but neither do I. I set a bad example with technology early on in his life and had to come to my own realization that I'm the parent and it's my duty to show him the right path. Since then I've made a conscious effort to do better and be a more active presence in his life. Now technology is something we use to enhance our lives, not escape from it.

I would encourage you to think hard about what it is you want for your children, maybe pray about it too... then put a plan into action. It's never too late to make positive changes in your life. Simply sitting around and wishing for things to be different wont accomplish anything, you need to simply put in the effort. If all your kids want to do is watch TV/be on the internet then it's your RESPONSIBILITY to show them a different path. Simply denying them access to it won't solve your problems. You need to be the example and demonstrate why they should be interested in other things. It will take a lot of effort, patience, and time. It's difficult, but very much worth it. I had similar struggles with my own son and it seemed like nothing I said to him got through. It wasn't until I made changes in my own life and made efforts to be much more involved in his did I begin to see him grow. I had to show him the way and practice what I preached. If you ever need any help or encouragement, you're more than welcome to simply ask. I'll do what I can to try and help you. You're not alone or powerless in this struggle. You can do this.

This is so funny how many people in the comments chime in with _"thats the right way to raise children"._ When the whole point of the film is that it isnt. That the kids are unfit for the real world. Not happy. That one parent and one worldview and one example is not enough for a growing human. Even with a superman father who obviously can be ALL the teachers at once - from math to roman literature, music to self defense, food conservation to politics. Homschooling is chi** **use. Yes, because its fiction. Those of us who can decern information have no problem with the Internet. It's only dangerous to easily led idiots.

What is difficult about watching this summary is seeing children being raised in a way where they face a practical fundamental disconnect with the modern world, and being able to recognize the same reflection in oneself. It's like being raised with a conditioning, recognizing you don't quite know your way out, into a fully functioning, self actualizing person
