Both albums were great contenders for the award. Mike gives you something to think about and Travis gives you an experience only he can conjure up. Grammys did this because people generate more buzz about someone who’s not in the limelight beating someone who’s been fighting for an award for years. If Travis was in the position of Mike and Mike was in Travis’s position it would’ve been the same situation of the lesser known winning and becoming the villain.

It’s and undeniable fact that many enjoyed another experience delivered by Travis Scott cause his album showed him confronting and dealing with a lot of criticism rightfully given to him. However, Michael brought it back to a more basic rap form that isn’t all that creative but is made spectacular because it still feels relevant in the current sound of hip hop and rap. There’s no right or wrong answer their is opinions. The only fact is Travis and Michael both deserve Grammys but neither of them should’ve gotten it for Utopia or Michael since they have better works.

Lesser known TPAB fact: At one point on the song, Kendrick Lamar makes a reference to the fellow rapper Lecrae who he was friends with at the time by saying: “Tell the world I know it’s too late, boys and girls all think I’ve gon’ cray” Crae can be short for crazy but is also a nickname of Lecrae’s and Tell The World was one of his biggest songs at the time. So while on the surface Kendrick is saying that people think he’s gone crazy, he’s also referencing people who think he’s gone Christian, since he opened and closed his last album good kid, maad city with an interlude reenacting him coming to Christ through a version of the sinner’s prayer.

Macklemore wasn’t actually a bad album , it was just so far away from traditional hip hop, while Kendrick’s album was generationally Iconic , in a time where mainstream had gotten super lazy and commercial, Kendrick proved hip hop was very much alive , and then he got snubbed for a white washed metrosexual guy from Seattle or something rapping about Gay love and basically re-doing a Lorde song , like the opposite of true hip hop. It wasn’t a bad album but the complete smack in the face to the entire genre , people took it all out on him. I kind of feel bad cause he didn’t ask for it to go down like that , I blame the Grammys , not so much him. The biggest snub ever besides Illmatic , but Illmatic mainstream didn’t know what they just witnessed until years later , the minute Kendrick dropped that album you knew it was best album of the entire decade the second you first heard it.

The one song where he just arguing with his girl legitimately made me break down, since I grew up with my parents fighting nonstop. I think Record Academy is trying to improve its image by winning categories past world records such as the first female singer to win the best rap album, the most Grammy winners of all time, the most winners of the best album of all time even though the quality is below that of the other nominees. This is inseparable from the decline in the quality of the jury and indications of corruption in recent years when popular and good songs that dominated that year were not included in the category.
