Ah Percy Jackson and Eregon. I've seen fun things about these adaptations. For Eragon, I saw recently an ask reddit thread about worst movie of all time and Christopher Paolini showed up on a comment mentioning Eragon going "yeah....yea..." or something along those lines. And for percy jackson, theres a letter or email that Rick Riordan sent to the movie makers going "uhh guys. This isnt good. I can help fix this, but you're not making anything good here." Both authors knew the movies would be bad at the script phase and they were forced to watch the train wrecks happen.

Yeah, not just talk, talk about it in such a dismissive way. That is what hurts the most. The series has its flaws, it is def more geared towards children, and that is fine. Certain themes are very on your nose, but it was for children, for crying out loud... I don't get the hate people throw at it (Looking at you mr Greene, you are usually much more objective).
@Law-of-EnTropy
@Law-of-EnTropy 4 жыл бұрын
@@VicRibeiro777 being a Tolkien's fan, it's understandable why Daniel doesn't like Narnia. There was once a debate between Tolkien and Lewis about what stories should tell. For Lewis, it should teach a lesson. For Tolkien, it is to let the story tell itself to its readers. And I think that's why Daniel doesn't like Narnia. He mentions from time to time that Narnia is just a bit too allegorical for him. Honestly, I don't see this as dismissiveness. He explained himself a lot about Narnia before this video, and usually when you do that, you get tired of explaining and just go on your day.

Also, as Narnia fan and as someone who appreciates the Christian themes of Narnia, It's a little depressing and tiresome that Daniel doesn't give Narnia the time of day. The other films in D tier, he at least gave an explanation as to why he put it there but with Narnia it was like, "lets put you here where you belong and move on". And in the last book, Harry’s love protects everyone at Hogwarts. What an incredible way to booked the series...AND THE FINAL MOVIE FAILS TO DELIVER THAT BOOKEND! What?????? Mark Alexander Yes, I hated how the movie failed to mention that Harry’s sacrifice saved pretty much everyone who was fighting Voldemort. He basically did for all the people, what his mother had done for him. Which makes Fred, Lupin, and Tonks’s deaths all the more tragic. If Harry had only known and gone to Voldemort a little sooner, they would have been under the protection as well, and wouldn’t have died.

Sorry but Narnia films are great adaptations' (for us who like the books). I don't think I know anyone who likes the books who doesn't enjoy the films. And even for someone who doesn't like the books, the films were decently made on their own (sequels were changed a lot but were still pretty good quality-wise, to me). Taking into account your personal feelings about the series, I still think they should be at least B tier. They are not even close to the same level as Eragon orThe Golden Compass film (which I personally like but only saw like once and haven't read the book so not gonna say too much there). And there is no way that Beowulf is better in any way than the Narnia films. I would even be okay with the Narnia films being in C tier with D&D, as long as it isn't in the same tier as those truly terrible films. I also want to make a note that, even though we the people enjoy the Neverending Story film, it is actually a terrible adaption. It changed almost everything from the book and the author tried to sue the company for improperly using his material/name, but the company went on to make the sequels kind of as a "F you" to the author. I would absolutely love to see a proper adaptation of the Neverending Story. If any film deserves a remake, it is that one.

Good for you putting D&D right there. That movie is always just a silly joy to watch. I would rank GOT higher because while the series did drop off, which does happen to series, I tend to try and not dwell to much on that when thinking about it, and remember how EFFING good the start was. It was so damn good it captivated the world into a grim dark fantasy world and will be the reason we have other fantasy stories being made, and being treated seriously with serious budgets. And I want to give it props for doing that.
@HikingPhalkawn

Well - while I usually enjoy your tiered list videos, and can gain some useful insights into the items being ranked, this one is a bit of a mess for me. There is no consistency between how you are evaluating them, and it seems to come across more of an I liked/disliked these movies/series instead of a (at least somewhat) objective evaluation of what is being ranked against some sort of established criteria. For this one, it could have been something like faithfulness to the source material and quality of production/acting/script. Instead somethings are ranked high for 'hey I liked it' reasons ignoring shortcomings in areas that are then explicitly called out as reasons for low rankings of other things, or the ones that are just low because 'I didn't like it' despite the quality of what was produced and how well it stuck to the source. Then there is the question of 'adaptation'. Some items on this list (while being fantasy) are not adaptations (e.g. Dungeons & Dragons). And another is marked lower because the quality took a serious nosedive, but only after what was being produced ceased to be an adaptation (i.e. Game of Thrones). Overall, I would rank this Tier List video as a D tier for lack of clarity and over abundance of subjective opinion influencing the ranker.

Nobody can trust you when you say this is an adaptations list when really it's just your personal preference list. You need to use the same criteria for everything. Not behind the scenes problems for one, cultural importance for another, nostalgia for one, and your religious preferences for another. It's hard to watch. I'm sorry, I do really enjoy your channel and will keep watching. Just hoping for more consistency.😄

As much as I enjoy the Harry Potter movies, I get angry every time I think about the way they handled Ron and Hermione’s characters. I would knock it down to A tier for that alone, although I know for a lot of people it doesn’t bother them. While I agree with other commenters that Harry Potter would probably be better suited for a one-season-per-book TV series, in the pre-GoT era big-budget fantasy shows weren’t really a thing. So I don’t think it’s entirely fair to fault the producers for going the film franchise route, or for making all the plot cuts that such a medium requires.

I mostly agree. I'm most offended(jk) by the placement of Narnia. It was an 'ok' movie that was at least true to the source material, unlike everything else in 'D' I wouldn't put Harry Potter in top tier. Some deviations from the source are too hard to ignore (Dumbledore's reaction in GoF; lack of reference to Neville's potential as chosen. etc.) There's just a little too much that a cringe at going through them. Eragon I'm on the fence about. Yeah,it's not really true to the source and leaves out a lot of good stuff, but I always thought it was a pretty good movie just to watch. The ending is less satisfying than it could be, but there was obviously supposed to be a sequel, so that doesn't feel like the movie's fault to me. I'm pretty sure all of the problems I had with the movie were also problems I had with the book. P.S. I really liked the Dresden files TV show, but I had the advantage of seeing it before I had read the books. Since it was my intro to the characters, I can go back and watch and still like it even though they behave differently than their book versions.

Game of Thrones seasons 1-4 were perfect, seasons 5-6 were great, 7 was “good”, but was starting to fall off quite a bit and 8 was a complete train wreck. Having never consumed the books or the games for The Witcher, the show is at least an A, if not S tier for me. I've ordered The first few books because of the show, and maybe they'll bump the show lower down in the rankings, or maybe I'll like the show better. Or maybe I'll love both and think they're both A/S tier in their own ways! We'll see :) Super excited to read them tho, they come on Friday ^-^ I also think Harry Potter is A tier for me. I love HP with all my heart (I even have a deathly hallows tattoo on my wrist) but idk the movies leave so much out. Any time I watch them with someone who hasn't read the books, I get bombarded with questions. I can answer them, because I've read the books like 20 times each, but there shouldn't be THAT many questions. Coulter was ok but shes supposed to be a stunning blond, just a nitpick. I hated James McAvoy as Asriel, Daniel Craig had much more of the gravity and smouldering arrogance that I always imagined during my many re-reads but the original movie was a well-cast shell that imploded on itself so I kind of get why those actors didnt want to come back for it. I’d put Harry Potter at Low S to Mid B personally, I think that for those who haven’t read the books they are great but they reaaaally butcher some characters. Ron is so much more... more? In the books. He feels just like the comedic punchbag in the movies where it’s luke, something’s bad needs to happen let’s pin it on Ron. Ginny is completely wasted. Enough said. Hermione is just too perfect, and in the book she’s more floored and less amazing at everything. But I think the movie makers needed a female Harry in a way so girls and guys can get behind a character of their own gender. My two cents anyway I think the movies were good just a shame that some characters felt alittle betrayed

Also, some of the character deaths are different. Not to mention Sir Philip Pullman's excellent prose ( it's good literature) and deep ideas often don't shine through the TV show. You should absolutely read the books and the follow up series the Book of Dust (which is being currently written and published) as well. Btw, the show introduces a main character early, who is actually in the second book.
