The Spellshop is one of my favorite books this year. I just loved it. I'm excited that we're getting another book in this world. I also enjoyed Where the Dark Stands Still. Another YA fantasy based on folklore (this time Welsh) with a great romance in it that I would recommend is The Hedgewitch of Foxhall. The banter in it made it so fun. The audiobook is narrators were great. Another fantasy with a lovely romance in it is A River Enchanted by Rebecca Ross. I'm currently reading the sequel. I recently bought The Book that Wouldn't Burn and I want to read it soon.

I JUST finished the Ninth Rain and oh my gosh it did not disappoint!! It’s exactly what I wanted out of most fantasy romances

Long time lurker here! So happy you've discovered Jen Williams! Would definitely recommend her trilogy The Copper Promise if you're enjoying The Winnowing Flame~ Jen's also poked into horror/thriller too! Hope you look into more of her books, she's so amazing!

Most fantasy has some element of romance, but obviously, your milage may vary. But sometimes the lines really blur. Wayfarer Redemption, Symphony of Ages, and Kushiel's Legacy, for example, are epic fantasy with sweeping plots, thick books, and lots of world-building and lore. But they are also heavy on the romance, with the romance being a major plot point (Kushiel's Legacy in particular, which I have picked up again after dnfing the second trilogy years ago, while not erotica, is kinda erotic fantasy). And sometimes there are romance novels with a fantasy subplot. So the lines can blur. But I do love a good queer romance.

Ohh, The Book That Wouldn't Burn is also an incredibly clever, intricate book! The central mystery of the library is set up as a puzzle for the main characters, whose every meeting is explosive. And as you get a feel for who they are, you can't help but think how well they'd fit together. It's just completely perfect. The Ninth Rain sadly didn't jive for me for the most part, even though I loved the plot right up until the end. Things felt strangely sedate, tension was missing and Tormalin irritated the crap out of me besides. I've read a couple side-splitting excerpts from Gideon the Ninth, I'm hoping to give it a shot sometime early next year. And I have my eye on Grace Draven as well, specifically Radiance.

Could you create a new video on recommending lots of easy to read books for teenagers under age of 18 and for new adults seperately? The themes - travel/adventure, social life/world, understanding society by reading someone's life (like Malala Yousafzai), Books on life of women (like Little women) You could also include books about love that are suitable for readers of under 18. And must include lots of exciting suggestions of top fantasy stories for this winter by which they experience new world and enjoy being there, which gives them vibes like Harry potter

I'm halfway through The Book That Broke the World and nearly done with The Poison Song and both of these series have had me gripped this year

I’m exactly the same. I’m always on a quest to find these two things in a book. And they either have one or the other or both are terrible haha.

Do you know why fabtasy romance in YA works better for you (and me and many others)? Because getting lost in or focussing on the smutty side of things is simply not an option 😅

While you were giving your other explanations of why you put these books on your list, I really thought “huh? I would put Gideon in the ninth on this list even if its also super gut wrenching” then you put it in your list 😂

Hi! The Dark Rise series by C.S. Pacat also fits in the last category. It's a great fantasy with a romance subplot that's there but isn't really, kind of, and it's also a slow burn that builds throughout the series. If anyone has something similar to that, please show it to meee

okay i read ‘the ninth rain’ by jen williams from your previous recommendations and i can confirm the romance, and the whole book in general, is EVERYTHINGGG 🫠 it was a perfect distraction from the intense plot lines and didn’t take away from the whole experience 🫶🏻

The Book that Wouldn't Burn and The Book that Broke the World are among my favourite books of 2024. Sadly Gideon the Ninth is at the other end of the scale... 📚
