I know no ill intent was behind the crusade coat bit but being Indigenous, it makes me feel a sorta way when I've given brief talks about Orange Shirt Day during college, which is about a young girl going away to a Canadian residential school and having her new orange shirt confiscated and burned by the Catholic clergy running the school. On the upside, the tornado bit always sends me into orbit.

As a non-Canadian, I never learned about those residential schools, so thanks for educating me on a pretty important part of history. I think it’s always important to learn about these sorts of events, especially when you’re not taught about them in school.

Yeah recently they found shoes under some of the sites that belonged to the dead students. Terrible stuff went down there too. I’m Canadian but not indigenous, my mom is Asian and my dad is English

I was also really confused and disconcerted by the reaction because any one from the America's talking about the genocide of indigenous people should be talking about it with a certain solemn. ( I am a white woman and was raised Catholic I no longer practice)
