The thing I kinda want to see are the dynamic borders. Like when a country or state takes over it, it will take it piece by piece, not really the entire nation, and other independent city-states make their own borders from within (like the cities themselves), so it could have a more dynamic picture. Take for example those from Khey Pard and Ollie Bye.

New game that came out recently, called "Fantasy Map Simulator." It basically just generates a heightmap, randomly populates it with countries, and simulates from there, though you can manually make both the countries and the terrain.
