I actually listened to this piece nonstop for a good hour to finish writing this one epic scene in my novel. It was very helpful. The music helped me picture everything exactly as I wanted. He returned, after so many years, to a land that was no longer recognizable. A kingdom, that he once ruled, no longer standing. He let go of the horse reigns and walked to the edge overlooking the ruins. The ashes covered his boots. The burning smell of death nearly choked him. How could he allow this? How could his kingdom, what was once the most revered land, become of this? He was the last of his kind. His people, his friends, his own family all perished and he was not there to protect them. He knelt down and vowed to bring his land back to what it once was whether he is victorious or not. He shall die with honors so be it.

Richard had dreamt of a field of white Roses, he plucked one and it turned red, and the rest followed. He awoke with a face full of mud and an ache he had too little time to concern. His crown fell and slowly sunk into the mud, it was but too late as he tried to grab it. He raised himself up with the blade of his bent and chipped sword. His armour was dented and dull, the white rose of his house was as brown as the field he fought on. The men who follow him, the counts and dukes who swore him fealty, all run rampant, some fighting, others fleeing, all panicked. Richard was grabbed from behind, he spun to see a captain of his sigil. “The battle is lost, your grace, let me help you to a horse” Richard but stared at him, his deformed and broken face was as menacing as the deeds themselves. “I have slain six Richmonds today, I will not turn down another” Richard retorted, pushing away the captain, who had turned into a sprint by the time Richard turned. Richard grabbed for the horse of his former captain and mounted hit, feeling a crack in his hunchback as he did. He raised his sword and charged into the fighting. Those still loyal cried in relief as they Ill-made King slashed and hacked at the red roses. “Hail, hail. Hail me your king, now and forever. We shall perish the red rose from England, and let the purity of peace reign again under a white one, as it had always been” the men cried in tired enthusiasm. Richard knew the lie he told was so. “Then follow, let no Richmond carry on his seed from this day forward. To arms!” The small retinue of mixed ranked knights and men-at-arms formed behind him on the hill, barely enough to for a unit fit for a king, but enough to enact his revenge. He saw the pockets of battle, and only one with Henry, fighting along side his troops as Richard did. Richard found himself almost admiring him, but it was either Richard or Henry, and Richard had made more difficult decisions in the past and came out alive. The sun of England’s summer raised over the clouds, the armour of war glistening in its smile, and the shouts of all the Plantagenets before carried through the wind to Richard’s ears and mind. “Bring down your dogs of war, we will put them down, or take them with us hand-to-hand to hell!” He said with a furious cry, and galloped with the fury of war behind him, dust gathering at their feet, they almost seems to be wraiths marching to death’s blue eyes. They crashed with screams of the young and old as lance met flesh, son met father, brother met brother. Richard felt a sting along his leg, but ignored it, he slashed his way through the thick mass of usurpers, his eyes flowed in fury, thirsty for the sight of Richmond himself. Each slash and hack was met with a similar slash and poke to himself, but he pushed on, letting his sword and shield answer their retorts. The men who had followed him had long fallen behind, dead or alive, Richard was alone. There, he saw him, his hair brown and eyes narrow emeralds of envy. He had a thin face and poked nose, his armour was scratched and muddy, his own sword was bent with the blood of Richard’s own. “Richmond!” Richard’s calling stopped the battle in its wake, all around, soldiers stopped and watched as the space between Henry and Richard cleared. “I looked for you” “And you found me, imp” the men around them laughed, Richard felt his leg shake. “Where’s my crown, kinslayer?” “In the mud of battle, worth more there than on your head, usurper” Richard felt his eyes droop as they became ever heavier. “Let’s end this war now, Richmond, let the Better man win” “That wouldn’t be fair, your grace,” Henry mocked the limping king. “To fight a creature as vile as yourself would be considered hunting, not a duel” the laughter was fainted in Richard’s ears. “And besides, you look to have fought more than one battle today, hunchback” Richard looked down at himself, he was mor red than the rose of his enemy. His leg had been emptying on the ground beside him and formed a puddle, his armour had broken off and stuck to him where it did not fall. A dagger held in his hunch where he could not reach. A stepped to him. “Let me help you” he said as he ripped the blade from his back, laughter erupted as Richard fell, landing in the puddle of his own life. “You’re a broken man, Richard,” Henry said, somewhat humbled. “Let your last moments be honourable and content. Surrender England to me, and you will die quickly” Richard closed his eyes, his hunch felt heavier than it ever did before. He thought of the last two years, the boys in the tower, his brother on his sick bed, the widow in his arms. The shady men of shady business visiting his quarters in the night with coins stained in blood. The countless heads of treasonous nobles. He heard the voice of his father, no... he heard the voices of all his fathers before, all the kings from Henry II to Edward III, all spoke at once, all echoed in his mind, all shunned him, all praised him. “Let the lion awaken before the winter” they said in unison. “Let the rose be bleached, and the blood of England soak in it” they chanted. “Awaken the land of William, awaken the memory of Arthur, Awaken the spirit of George” they were screaming now. “Let the lion sleep, for when he wakes, he shall mount the world and claim it his pride” Richard opened his eyes, sword in hand he leapt at Henry, his emerald eyes narrow as slits. He pushed down on the hilt of his sword, the blade was stained brown with dried blood, and it sunk into the mud. He held himself up with a leg as he raised the blade to Henry, with a smile of a fractured mind “And so it begins” Richard said, smiling smugly. “No,” Henry said, a sad smile on his lips. “Now, it ends” As they came together in a crash of thorns and petals, a school of petals as white as the clouds against the sky, turning red as the eyes of death.

His entire body screamed out in pain, in weariness, but he knew his fight was not yet over. For there was still one foe, one enemy of Ishgard, the mightiest of them all, that opposed him. He looked forward. Nidhogg paced back and forth over the fallen, both of Ishgard, and of his own fallen brethren. His rage, his anger, pent up for a thousand years, all directed at those that had dared to blind him, to steal his power, his strength. His very being screamed out in rage, in vengeance, in hatred of those and all that stood with them. They saw each other at the same instant. Their eyes locked. Nidhogg brought his head back, flame flickering in his mouth. Aymeric raised his sword.
