Apart from the final this is my favourite battle, Mephiles knowing he’s out of the timeline and wants to restore himself is cool. Also the fight itself is interesting and has great action. The fact is well Mephiles is the only one underground indicating the void is forgetting it’s apart of existence. The sonic battle animation is well done, even if it isn’t a proper battle. Also how shadow got his name is so wonderful and beautiful and is clever. ❤️🖤

aka he not gone because erase them or change someone or thing history from the history of the universe from the past is not allow so the universe undone the over the few days, it explains even after Mephiles defeat remnants of him still exist like the time-eater. aka he not erase or alter from the history of the universe aka he can't get back in wait to get back in phantom outside of time but he's history didn't change just of the sun god made him shatter into the time-eater instead of him and he now just alter future still in the present aka quantum mechanic Transend all dimensions and lowest of all dimensions

Optional Dialogue with Gerald has him theorize that the time eater's influence is also pulling future events into white space. So that's why the Forces and Frontiers levels are there.

@@jospehpenn3033 It's possible that Iblis is still around. In Silver's timeline (in Sonic 06), Blaze use the Chaos Emerald to absorb Iblis and had Silver sent her to another dimension. It's possible that dimension is the Sol Dimension, which could mean that timeline's Iblis is still alive living inside of Blaze. While we know that the ending of Sonic 06 erased Solaris, along with Mephiles and Iblis, from their dimension, we don't know if it affected the Sol Dimension at all.

@thexreaper6930 ehhh its possible, but with how the writers and directors made it sound they toom a different direction so most likely blazes abilities are a result of having iblis at one point but it can't really create a new one ya know?

@@jospehpenn3033 I was implying that the Iblis within Blaze didn't get erase because they were in a different dimension. But I realize something else; Iblis is technically in Sonic Generations when you play as Sonic going through Crisis City. While Sonic doesn't fight Iblis directly, he does fight off the minions that they usually create. The minions, the flames, the lava, the fire tornado, they are all extensions of Iblis itself.

Seeing Mephiles again kind of makes me wish sonci team would go for a final fantasy 7 style remake of 06 where mephiles remembers all the events of the original game. They could even be a bit meta about it and have him belittle his past plans, as a cheeky parallel to how the original game sucked.

My only guess why Chaos island is part of shadows story is because he eventually ends up there (Maybe as Frontiers dlc, another animated short, or a frontiers sequel) since shadow also havent been in sunset hills yet in this point in the series.

It's crazy to think that SEGA actually brought back mephiles in an actual sonic game where you actually fight him! And i don't mind his new voice actor. Sure it's no dan green, but he's still doing his best! Though i saw a video of someone made a mod where it's still the same voice but it was shifted down to make him sound deeper and it doesn't sound bad. (Though the mod from that video isn't released at the time i saw it)

I really wish they brought back the original VA, but Daymond sounds pretty good. Shame this is probably the only time Mephiles makes a reappearance. I hope that ages.

Honestly, I think a reason people feel a tinge of sympathy for him is because Mephiles has *always* been insane. He and Iblis were never meant to exist separately and when Shadow trapped him in the scepter he was completely unaware of his surroundings. Only remebering Shadow's form and stewing over it in confinement for years. All of which clearly made him go a little mad. He was still one half of a time god, but his intelligence compared to Iblis just made his madness & lust for revenge worse. Then he gets erased and spends an unknown amount of time in The Void. Now finally seeing an opportunity to escape by killing Shadow and taking the Emerald from him. And his voice actor Robbie Daymond, although he's no Dan Green who was literally perfect, does a great job in making Mephiles sound pretty similar, but also *DESPERATE* Meaning he's losing whatever sanity he has left in The Void, fully aware he "doesn't exist". Its natural to feel a small tinge of pity for him. Don't get it twisted tho, this is still a FITTING punishment for him. But if this is Sega checking how open the fanbase is to seeing him return in some capacity, I wouldn't mind it if they went the Happy Chaos route (Guilty Gear). Where he's still an antagonistic force, but one who's happy to just exist again.

Morph was kinda jank tbh. You start to get a bit used to it, but i just don't like how awkward it is. Imo it breaks the flow of the gameplay a bit. And i actually agree with the "frontiers deserves to be in a generations game" take. I didn't even think about that. I was confused why chaos island appeared at first as well, but frontiers was sooo good to me i was just happy to see it there. Frontiers is straight up goated.

Well, he’d probably be less of a threat, since Iblis was destroyed and Solaris doesn’t exist. But, he’d still be impossible to kill, and probably can’t die. So he’d find a way to end the universe some other way. Keep in mind, he beat Shadow once, and forced him to take off his inhibitor rings. So there’s a good chance Mephlies could beat base Shadow going all out. Most likely plan I think? He’d probably plunge Earth back into the Dark Ages. Mephiles would thrive in that period, only after killing Shadow and the others of course. But Sage, Blaze, Silver, and Sonic would also be big obstacles for him.

@@garrettviewegh9028 Seems like both Sonic and Shadow get stronger with age seeing how Sonic doesn't need to be Super to beat Perfect Chaos and neither does Shadow for Metal Overlord in Generations compared to their respective games. Mephiles while he would be a problem probably won't be able to defeat them now without outside help or the Chaos Emeralds to boost himself, even then it would only get him on their level since a sufficient amount of Chaos energy can apparently knock the emeralds out of someone something Sonic knows very well since Frontiers.

With the content we’ve gotten recently, I can’t help but wonder, could GUN and Mephiles return to the franchise in some shape or form? Would Sonic Team do it? Could they in terms of writing? That last one, maybe. I hope so, I could see Mephiles reminding Shadow all over again with that psychological torture and emotional torment he pulled over him in Sonic 06. Mephiles was one of the few characters that could actually match, or overcome Shadow. As for GUN, while it makes sense Eggman would destroy them, I feel the writers left their fate vague in Forces so they could use them again later if they wanted. But, we’ll have to wait and see what SEGA and Sonic Team do. Personally, I’d like to see to see Mephiles and GUN return somehow.

I'd like to think that G.U.N. would return probably with a new name due to the organization structure requiring to be changed since Eggman effectively ruled the world for nearly a year plus all the former leaders are presumably dead. Mephiles while he would be neat there'd have to be another time crash excuse for him to suddenly exist again.
