Hearing the Wedding in the background was lovely-it’s such a pretty song. But, again, it made me cry just like in all of the other videos. Hearing the music playing inside of a theatre is so bittersweet for me; I’m so happy that theatre is back in some capacity already, but I know it won’t be back near me for some time.

I never noticed that Fantine's dress that she wears during the end of lovely ladies/her arrest is a run down, dirtier version of her factory dress! That's so cool! I guess I didn't know because I've only ever seen the pro-shot of this concert and you're wearing the torn-up version of a dress that never exactly saw the light of day. Thanks for this video Carrie, it was super interesting! Also, side note I love seeing how the costumes have evolved over the years! I personally love the change from Cosette's black dress to the green one (I feel like this was changed during the second broadway revival, but I'm not sure), it represents her bright and bubbly personality better. I also love how Fantine's hair went from being in super tight, spirally curls with those perfect waves at the front to her natural, unstyled hair with just a few clips or pins holding it back. Makes more sense considering she's working in a factory and even before being fired, she doesn't have much money.

@Jack Singer I don't think they've announced yet, however she'll be leaving not even two weeks before the concert officially closes, so I'm assuming they'll just have the understudy do it. It would be a waste of time and money to get someone new for that short amount of time.

That's so interesting! I've seen Les Mis a couple times on the tour in the US and I could have sworn the costumes were the same here? Are they not streamlined through all the companies? The costumes are iconic so they must be the same across the board, right? Does each company get its own adjustments to color and fit depending on that companies' needs? Or when your dress changed did all of the costume design for all of the Fantines in Les Mis?
@Carrie4 жыл бұрын
All the dresses will have similarities to keep the iconic traits. Fantine’s dresses will all be blue/green, all have roughly the same shape and cut but the fabrics usually change each time they have to make a new one just because old fabrics can’t be found again or it’s a different dress maker because it’s a new version or simply because it’s a new version they have license to reinvent! My Eponine skirt and hat were entirely different to what Shan is wearing now but they still have the same colour, cut and/or shape. ❤️

I've heard from sex workers that the term prostitute is not ideal, as the word was created to criminalize sex work, and therefore describing sex work as inherently criminal. I've been told that it can feel dehumanizing. Please consider rethinking your phrasing if you see this, Carrie! Lots of love
@Carrie4 жыл бұрын
Hello! I totally get what you're saying and it's not a term I would use to describe sex workers today. However, in this video I'm referring to a fictional character from the 1800's. In the show, Fantine is referred to as a prostitute ("When this prostitute attacked me you can see she left her mark"...because the term sex worker probably wouldn't have been in circulation then and it's used in a derogatory manner), Fantine refers to herself as a whore ("even a whore who has gone to the bad won't be had by a rat") and she's referred to as a slut ("you must send the slut away or we're all gonna end in the gutter"). These aren't words I feel comfortable using in today's world (and don't) nor would I use these words to describe sex workers living today, however, when in the world of fictional characters set in the 1800's world of Les Miserables when certain terminology was used and is used in the story, I feel it's a little different? Happy to hear your thoughts otherwise.
