For the transfer of programs from and to USB, use the “Quick N/C” button on the right hand side of your controller and go to the horizontal softkey labelled “quick edit”. Here there is a very straightforward GUI that allows you to transfer via any storage device connected to the controller. The “Quick N/C” menus hold a lot of info and functionality that is commonly sought after. Hope this helps.

I find it quite hilarious how that control is almost identical to the 20 year old Robodrill I learned CNC on. There’s maybe five buttons out of place, but the jog Keys , memory, edit, everything important is right in the same spot. Even the screen visuals haven’t changed very much.

We have 4 LR-Mate robots, and you're right, the programming is NOT user friendly. At all. The robots overall are FANTASTIC, so it's really strange why they haven't revisited their software to make it at least somewhat intuitive. We run unattended 24/7 and the reliability of the robots is unmatched. Most of them are 15 years old or so. Amazing.

One good thing: If you know one Fanuc control, you can usually find your way around any other Fanuc model. For the day-to-day operations, the menus are similar enough... judicious use of the + and > softkeys will usually get you where you need to go. Same goes for the underlying PLC programming, macro programming, and NC coding. At the basic level, a 0i-Mate PLC is very similar to a 31i-A5 PLC, and all the variations in between. The differences are usually due to the new features of the higher-powered controls. Doesn't apply to the bastard 15i series of controls. Complete break with tradition. Drove me up the wall!

My employer considered Ready Robotics (we're kinda local, a few hours away) for our Fanuc and Motoman robots. Ended up not going there partially because we've been running robots for so many years and their platform is so far different that for our experienced crew, it would be a burden. Also, I never got a good answer on how well "specialty" instructions/routines were supported (such as the compensation functions used to shift the TCP and weld points on a spot welding robot whenever they dress their weld tips); as an engineer (and "power user" if you will), I (and the other engineers) do use some specialty settings/instructions to optimize our processes. Production hours are made of cycle seconds! For what you, NYCNC would have been doing, Ready Robotics is probably an ideal solution, especially since this is your first industrial robot and you'd primarily be doing material handling with the robot being the main brain of the handling operation (most of our equipment is primarily PLC based, with the robot following the PLC's commands to do things). I do see the value in their product; it just wasn't a great fit for our applications. PS: I feel your pain on Fanuc's Teach pendant UI being a bit tedious. Compared to our other main platform I routinely work on (Motoman NX100 and DX100), while Fanuc does have slicker technology, I do prefer the Motoman UI (a lot less work to do the same thing). But still a lot better than, say, Panasonic (which another division of my employer uses a lot of for MIG welding), or worse yet, the early 2000's Kawasaki "C" controllers we still have a few of in operation. The latter was so goofy that I'm told that when Kawasaki developed the "D" controller, they ditched the C's UI entirely (wouldn't personally know, by that point we were back to buying Motoman).

So I started a new job about a month ago and they set me in front of two five axis Robodrills and a Hyundai WIA and were like "LOL, HERE'S YOUR PROGRAMS, MAKE IT HAPPEN!" All of my previous work experience has been in three axis HAAS land. For the most part I've muddled through and figured it out with one exception: I REALLY like to be able to run the preview graphics to see what the machine is going to do before I hit the go button and I cannot for the life of me figure out how to make it work on FANUC controllers. Going and asking other people who have run these machines before has universally yielded answers along the lines of, "Oh, uh, just don't do that." Really hope your upcoming video touches on that.

Since I've read like 100 comments on Fanuc controls being unintuitive and bulky. Thing is, Fanuc keeps things standardized. If You learn to program or use new machine, You can go and do exactly that with almost any machine from Fanuc made in last 30 years. It's exactly same with robots. We have robots made last year, robots made early 2000's and even from 1990's and except for older pendants lacking color screens - almost everything is exactly the same. One day they will have to change that, technology goes in large leaps, but their idea of keeping a straight standard is IMHO great. Also, You can buy any part for any machine, if they don't have it, they will make one just for You. It will not be cheap, but still possible. Others like Kuka will tell You to buy new robot.. I'm working with Fanuc and Yaskawa robots every day. Since I've learned Fanuc, everything is simple, stable and I love it.

Gotta love Karel...Yea...I used to work for these guys (dream job). Not sure what you mean about "non-user friendly" pendent. It all comes down to time on the system and the software installed on the controller as well. The robot and base controller is pretty darn inexpensive, but the software can cost a bundle. I was a little shocked when I saw that little LR-Mate, and at the beginning I kind of said "yea, that's not going to work for you guys"...In the end, FANUC isn't a HUGE CNC player any longer. They are primarily a ROBOT Company. BTW: A M710-iB or a M16 may be what you're looking for in terms of un-attended operation...16Kg payload on that M16. There are no Problems whit the Toolchanger, the Robodrills work 24/7 365Days in a Year, Mechanikly! The Controll alsow is reliabl cors its a Fanuc. The Mager flaw this machine has, ALWAYS that the Tollchanger drum gets dirty and your Contactsurfaces geting covered in dirt by time, espacely when you work whit cast iron. A safe workaround is to Change whit Coolant Threw Spindle insted of Air, nobody knows that not even the guys who sell the machines ^^ and to make that happen you have to change 5Parameters and 3lines of code bevore every toolchange (Macro). Then you have no Problem at all whit these things!

I hate Fanuc controls, but one thing to make running programs faster is to save them on the card as Onnn without the .nc extension, then from memory call the program with M198 Pnnn. You have to set the IO channel to 4 ( I think?) in order for it to run off the card but then you don't have to copy to the control every time. The main problem with this is that you cannot do a program restart from part way through if for example you have to change a tool.

@@RoboDriller Do you have access to the CNC's parameters? Specifically, most of of the parameters from #0 to #200 or so. These set the CNC's various "punch/reader" interface settings, things like baud rate, parity, etc. Fanuc CNCs are pretty flexible in how they communicate, but really obscure to set up. The USB device likely has easier setup, so knowing how the CNC is setup and then matching the USB device to match is easier, in my experience. If you can see the parameters (sYSTEM key > press + softkey until you see the PARAM sofkey > press the PARAM sofkey. This should show the CNC's parameters starting at #0. PG-DN & PG-UP will move to next & previous screen of parameters. Write down the value for each parameter from #0 to #200; some are a string of 8 bits, others are just numbers. If you can't see the CNC's parameters, the SETTING(HADY) screen provides some of the info we need. Should be able to see this screen by pressing OFFSET/SETING key -> press the + softkey until the SETING softkey is visible -> press the SETING softkey. This screen has a list of parameters in a more "friendly" format, "TV CHEK, PUNCH CODE, INPUT UNIT, etc. PG DN and PG UP move thru the various screens; write them all down. If you can get that far, we'll have a good chance to make this work. Other things I'd like to know: - what connector did you wire this USB device? - did the connector you wired this USB device ever work? Was it connected to another system before you attached the USB device? - confirm that this is the USB device you installed: www.shopfloorautomations.com/hardware/pendant-usb-connect/ I'm 90% sure we can get this working. It'll be slow & tedious. But I've connected various Fanuc CNCs to dozens of different communications means (including paper tape readers, floppy disks, Ethernet, etc.). Suggest we move this to another comms means; KZbin comments are not ideal for this... I do WhatsApp, FB Messenger, and email. Lemme know if you have a preference, and send me your contact info.

The geared tool change is theoretically cool, but falls apart as spindle speeds go over 10k. The gear is not well balanced, which is why very few 24k Robodrills are ever used at the full speed (most find the sweet-spot at 22k, and things get unstable above that). Brother switched to a servo driven turret for all this many years ago, and Fanuc's newer ADV model Robodrills also have a servo turret.

But yeah, the robot arm shown in this video is way to small to have the required rigidity, no way you're gonna machine on that. --- This small robot arm could however be used for something like deburring, sanding or polishing. Think about wire brushes, flap sanders or polishing disks mounted on a tabletop grinder. The limited default memory for Fanuc controllers is mindboggingly insultingly low. They really do think it's still the 80's. Another thing is, the reason why the software is that clunky is because of old code, that has been updated and shuffled around, and to still be somewhat understandable/transferable across all Fanuc versions over the years. Oppose to figuring out a complete redesign from scratch. Are you using Oil & Water based emulsion coolants or Cutting Oils in your Machine shop? Are you throwing out your Emulsion Coolant for Foul Smell too often? Do you wish to increase your Coolant's Life Cycle? Do you have Problem of Foul Odor like Rotten Eggs etc? In case you answer "yes" to any one of the above question, then you would be definitely interested in our very inexpensive and innovative solution. Our Motto is: Stop Throwing Away Machine Coolant, use Aqua-Logic Filter for Coolant Fluid Management. "Aqua-logic" Machine Coolant Filter/Treatment System Key Features: • Very low Cost & Return on Investment · No chemical additives • Kills bacteria and algae • Systems are portable or fixed • Ends rancid Monday morning stink • Reduces coolant waste • Avoids costly waste disposal • Prevents skin rashes • Lengthens coolant life • Extends tool life • Improves part finish • Captures oil and metal fines After Using Aqua-Logic you would observe the following: i) Immediate and Dramatic Results within hours. The Rotten Egg/ Foul Smell go off. ii) Stops further breeding of bacteria. Increases the Cutting oil Life. iii) Your Purchase of fresh coolant oil would reduce drastically. Working Principle By filtering the coolant through layers of very high purity multi metal media element by oxidation-reduction, electrochemically reduces bacteria and other microorganisms that infect the coolants, as it filters swarf and contaminants. Oxidation-Reduction Process Controlling Micro-organisms The oxidation-reduction process is simply transfer of electrons from one atom of molecule to another. The difference in electrical potential between the metals in the alloy produces an electron flow that continues almost indefinitely. This oxidation-reduction media produces an electrolytic field that causes cellular damage to bacteria by disrupting electron transport that most microorganisms cannot survive. In water based coolants this media not only kills bacteria by direct electrochemical contact but also by the flash formation of hydroxyl radicals and hydrogen peroxide which interfere with the microorganism's ability to function. Filtration The unit is taken in a bye-pass loop system and there can be two methods to have the coolant coming in the unit: i) Either through a tapping in the existing pressure line (unit would take a designated LPM based on the Machine Sump Size). Optionally, we can supply a suitable AOD pump with the unit and then the unit becomes a stand alone system. ii) There is a pre-cartridge of your desired micron rating but the minimum would be 50 Microns. This is to avoid blinding of the Multi Metal Media. iii) Due to the unique design and use of Multi Metal Media, The cartridge will continue to operate in conditions where other conventional filters have plugged or ceased to operate effectively. The results are dramatic and immediate. The conversion of hydrogen sulphide to cupric sulphide ELIMINATES the rotten egg odor. -The electrolytic cell kills bacteria and eliminates further hydrogen sulphide production -Fluid life is increased and disposal costs are reduced. - The use of biocides is greatly reduced or eliminated -Process quality is improved and/or tool life is increased -Most potential health hazards are eliminated -The need to control biological activity through the injection of chlorine is eliminated. In addition, AQUA-LOGIC'S Multi Metal Media alloy provides a cost effective way to augment treatment for the reduction and removal of heavy metals. Water soluble cations, (+) ions, are removed by the galvanic action between the Multi Metal Media, eliminating or reducing most dissolved heavy metals. Benefits : o Dramatically extends emulsion coolant life. o Saves time, money and down time in waste disposal costs. o Extends tool life multi fold times. o Captures oil & metal fines through absolute micron rating filter. o Kills bacteria & algae, including legionella, E-Coli, heterotrophic bacteria, Staphylococcus bacteria, Aspergillis Niger Mold. Prevents skin rashes o No chemical additives o Coolant Sumps start to smell very bad after a few weeks, or in some case even in days. All Sump odour would be eliminated after installing “Aqualogic” Coolant Filtration system. o The saving would be self determined and the machine cost would be free within a year itself. o Reduce, or eliminate trace metals dissolved in the fluid o Balances the pH at an ideal 7.0 or above to continuously avoid the regrowth of the microbial activities. Prevents scale build ups.
