Actually, if you’re going for realism here, that whole syndrome IS realistic. Most tyrannies fall because the tyrants make impulsive and ultimately harmful decisions.
@ismaelismael85433 жыл бұрын
@@468erpeashooter9 however there are still unrealistic examples of the "bad guy" being openly evil for no apparent reason. An example of this could be the draft to paradise, which can be compared to Stalin's 5 year plans to improve soviet industry. While Stalin did put civilians into labour camps he tried to cover it as if they were all traitors, meanwhile Anton not only doesn't lie about using civilians he activelly emphasises the fact that only "true yarans" go to plant viviro which only sends the message that if you are loyal to the regime you will just get puniged.
@jakesoros23763 жыл бұрын
@@ismaelismael8543 Exactly. Whilst many dictators have done things that have impeded their ability to reach their goals, and even for stupid reasons at times, in the end they always had a reason of some kind. It's interesting to note how the game doesn't like talking about the reign of the Fidel Castro stand-in, Santos, who took over Yara after Antón's father was killed. It does note that Antón only took over a few years ago when Santos died. In other words, the "oh so benevolent" Santos literally ruled the country for multiple decades. I don't know about you, but you don't get that kind of power without outlawing opposition political parties or violating civil liberties. Hell, Fidel Castro killed over 100,000 people to maintain power in Cuba, more than any of the capitalist aligned dictators killed. Heck, that's far more than his predecessor Batista killed. And yet, Ubisoft doesn't trust its playerbase to understand that complexity. Instead, they created a blatant "Antón bad dictator!" story rather than the more nuanced story that Far Cry 2 had, where 2 factions were fighting yet they were both equally hypocritical in their ethics or lack thereof. I consider it a waste of Giancarlo Esposito's acting talents. The sad thing, is that the game has in-world notes that hinted towards this nuance that some of the developers would have wanted to put in. For example, in the basement of the San Telmo Lighthouse at the Southeastern part of the map, in Conuco, El Este, you can find a letter by Lobo, a significant member of the original revolution, describing how he doesn't like how Santos just reads political theory while Lobo and his soldiers have to do the actual fighting. That could have been easily missed by 99% of players, as Lobo's dilemma isn't mentioned by the other Legends of '67, or even in a sidequest. That's a shame considering the potential world building opportunities presented by this. Edit: Changed the name of the stand-in Castro after I realized I got his name wrong.
@jakesoros23763 жыл бұрын
It's difficult to tell what dictator the writers wanted Antón to be inspired by. Pinochet perhaps? A controversial man who laid the foundations for modern Chile, one of the most prosperous and safe countries in Latin America. However in doing so, he was made the head of the military junta that overthrew the socialist President Allende, who's policies put Chile into a state similar to that of modern day Venezuela, and committed various civil rights abuses, although not to the extent of other dictators of the time. However, Antòn has a huge propaganda arm that Pinochet didn't have. If anything, his rule, as presented to the players is more in line with Alfredo Stroessner, a corrupt, brutal dictator with a cult of personality and 2 sons who were seen as degenerates by the Paraguayan Army and the people. But Antòn seems to genuinely care about his country, unlike Stroessner, and yet he surrounds himself with people who are needlessly brutal and incompetent. Ubisoft could have easily built on this dynamic, yet they didn't. It's unfortunate to say the least.

33:18 This scene takes inspiration from Hitler's final days - he is still woking with his ministers on designing Germania after the war is won. If you want to see it, I suggest Downfall. It's not very far into the movie.

Hold on a second, i though America has been nuked by north Korean? So farcry 5 is not Canon?
@mstrp59333 жыл бұрын
But this games takes place in 2021. And in terms of a war I guess that New Dawn is non canon but "nuclear war" ending in FC5 is canon. As far as I can remember at the end when you choose to oppose Joseph, he makes you inhalate that drug named bliss or something like that. So everything you see is just a halucination. There was no nukes and no war. Watch the whole ending again and you see some minor differences in the bunker.

As the story progress to final mission after defeatinf anton's loyalist, anton's face is very different than the last time he appeared. As his leukemia is now gone worse, just like arthur morgan from rdr 2 after collecting debts from thomas downes(who actually suffered tbc) contracted to arthur, as the story progress arthur's now diagnosed with tbc and his face is now very different than the last time he appeared.

This game’s story could have had so much nuance and depth, but they didn’t really try. It would have worked better as a show.

This game was written so shit, the dialogue is so uncertain of itself, it wants to be serious and comedic, it hurts me as a FarCry fan
