They didn't include Elias's game ball where the ref made a questionable call. Unfair to Elias to not show that, since it contributed to his frustration with the ref
@farisjc149 минут бұрын
sure, but in this video they also chose not to include elias threatening to take the ref outside and beat him up. so it all evens out. (although i still think elias will be banned for a few weeks)

That conduct stroke was ridiculous, the ball was right on the wall he just chipped it off to Farag who was serving.
@FadiLeader2 сағат бұрын
It seems Elias gave up at the end, and the conduct Stroke got into his head , also Farag was playing so good and smooth as usual , almost impossible to beat.
@Orbituation19 минут бұрын
It was very close up to that game 4, I don't think Elias could have won that set but after the conduct stroke it looked like he completely gave up on the match, which was a real pity.

Unfortunately, I have to state that squash is not yet ready for the Olympics. Despite the incredible level of talent among players, the poor and often unreasonable refereeing is a serious issue. It often seems as though referees have never played squash themselves, leading to questionable decisions that affect the flow of the game. Player emotions and passion are a crucial part of what makes squash exciting and watchable-something essential for any Olympic sport. However, with inconsistent refereeing, the sport’s potential to succeed on the Olympic stage is hindered. A fundamental principle for any sport is clear: the referee must never influence the outcome of a match based on personal prejudices or preferences. Without significant improvements to officiating standards, squash’s prospects for the Olympics remain dim, despite its growing global appeal.

Typical Elias....he really is mentally very weak considering what an amazing player he is. Giving up in a major final is unacceptable.
@WhitMor-x3p16 минут бұрын
A former #1 and current top 5 global player 'mentally weak'? Bit of an exaggeration don't you think?. Such a claim betrays a profound ignorance of the extraordinary psychological strength required to dominate at the highest levels of professional squash. Momentary emotional vulnerability under intense pressure is not weakness-it's fundamentally human. He lost his focus, reacted to some difficult 50/50 calls, and paid the price. To flatten his entire career and psychological profile into a lazy, sweeping generalization based on isolated incidents... really??
@Orbituation13 минут бұрын
Lol how much squash have you watched over the years? I've watched since 2010 and I can even say during the last 5 years many players have given up the final game at some point, not to mention over the last 15 years. Even amazing players like Gaultier, Shabana etc. And (looked like) Elias put up a great show until the conduct stroke. I don't know what was said since the clip was cut off, but obviously was very mentally affected by the decision.

utter bs witnessing this level of refereeing in the final. Frustrations are part of the game. This new rule disallows to even put your thoughts in front of the referee. Even in tennis there is room for argument. Just trying to impose the rules not looking at the situations and the occasion.
@TheN00bPolice55 минут бұрын
The directive is arse. They’ve doubled down on what was always a bad design in the first place. Conduct shouldn’t affect the score within the match whatsoever. If you want to apply conduct penalties to professional players, you do so with a calm and objective game review free from emotion (yes, that includes the refs) after the fact using a points system - and if a sufficient threshold is reached this could apply to ranking points reduction, fines, suspension from tournaments or any combination of the above. But the only thing that should affect the score of a game in progress itself are the points scored in the game in actual play. This “parent punishing child” like stance the refs are taking is ridiculous. Who the hell hasn’t swore or hit their racket occasionally when playing competitive squash at a decent level?! Stop thinking professional athletes should all be zen Buddhists or holier than thou virtual signalling tosspots. It’s not compatible with the sport.

That did seem excessively harsh for what Elias did. Not sure it rose to the level of 'racquet abuse'. Ref alluded to an earlier incident, so perhaps there was a pattern, or Elias increasingly felt the ref was against him. Even so, a pro player should not lose their mental focus like that. It's Elias' only weak spot!

The trend of penalizing the expression of human emotion in sports is concerning and evidences a lack of foresight. You'd have a better product if you let the athletes be themselves instead of treating them like children.

Very bad and nonprofessional from Elias to treat Farag like that and blame the ref
@TheT1000tony2 сағат бұрын
Admittedly I did not see the entire context but I for one like the fact that the top squash refs are increasingly pushing back against disrespectful, obstructive and/or petulant behaviour of the players. I think it will be better for the game and the players in the long run. I'm not sure if Asal's former behaviour on court had something to do with this but I sense a positive difference in how the refs are doing their job. Calls will not always be perfect but players need to control their emotions and know their outbursts have consequences.
@tomtruhelkaСағат бұрын
Context is everything. Conduct stroke in this situation was not only unjust, but also potentially disrupted player's concentration causing momentum swing. I wouldn't blame Elias from for being weak, unfortunately, the sense of injustice is hard to get rid of to regain concentration fast in a pressure situation such as this.
@TheT1000tony56 минут бұрын
@@tomtruhelka I'm a fan of Elias but mature professional athletes need to be better than this. Mentally folding like this in the final game of a professional tournament is on the player, not the ref. Especially if he had been warned already which appeared to be the case. The momentum appeared to have turned at that point anyway which clearly contributed to Elias behaviour.
@Orbituation3 минут бұрын
@@TheT1000tony He was definitely frustrated by his loose serve which got punished, which was why he hit the ball like that. I didn't even think it was that hard, but seems the ref really wanted to make a point out of that. And giving a free point at 5-1 when you're 2-1 down is huge, I can understand why he got rattled so hard, especially when someone like Farag is playing well and has the momentum.
