Look at the Tory candidates, Badenoch has lost her nerve on immigration, Jenrick talks tough but would be Sunak 2.0 no action, Tugendhat did I tell you I was in the army? as repetitive as my dad was a toolmaker and then Cleverly! the biggest gift Reform could get as he would cause an even bigger Tory voter exodus.

If your political acumen is anything like your grammar, the Conservatives are likely to be obliterated. Until the last election I had voted Tory at every single election. In the latter years it was only because there was no alternative. At the last election there was a choice and I voted for Reform. The only bits of the Conservative conference I have seen have been the clips on the news and it all looked very underwhelming. Of contenders in the leadership contest, I couldn't vote for any of them. Each of them is tinged by their association with a failed government. If they had had any sense they would have followed Lord Farmer's advice and put a caretaker leader in place. He suggested Iain Duncan Smith but I would have preferred David Davis. Both are competent and experienced politicians who would have held Starmer to account while the party got back on its feet. Once they were more united they could look across the 121 MPs and see what talent they had and select a leader. Even if they selected the same few, the space of a year or two would have let people's memories of the last government fade and let the electorate see them in a new light. They haven't done this and, frankly, I am past caring about them.
