I totally disagree with Farage and his ideas, but it cannot be considered that "the two dictatorships have disappeared thanks to the European Union". Even in consideration of the important role of the EU in international relations, Tajani's statement was too simplistic and untrue compared to the complexity of the events that led to the end of the two dictatorships. On the other hand, the EU was officially born with the Maastricht Treaty of 1992, while the European Economic Community (EEC) with the Treaty of Rome of 25 March 1957. Both had little to do with Nazism, considering the inexorable decline with the end of the Second World War (1945) and the indispensable intervention of the United States. A completely marginal role also in the dissolution of the USSR. We agree on respect for opinions, but the story must be told objectively. And I say this as an Italian and a pro-European.
@lolilollolilol7773
@lolilollolilol7773 2 жыл бұрын
You are correct, and I think his real thought was something like this: the EU helped its members fight against renewal of dictatorships in the after war. But I agree if that was his thought, like I think, it was pretty badly stated. Farage could have made his point without being a c*nt though, but then again, it wouldn't be Farage. The president of the Parliament was right to scold him for his childish behaviour, even if he was wrong on the historical facts. Anyway, I think noone regrets Farage in Bruxelles.

@LastViolator
@LastViolator 4 жыл бұрын

@LastViolator
@LastViolator 4 жыл бұрын
A Trump?
@PRODAt3
@PRODAt3 4 жыл бұрын

BUT I also have a history Phd and I know for a fact that this peace was brought by NATO and by the Pax Americana, not by the EU. I don't want to leave the EU, but the EU is not perfect, its a mess with 30 different states always fighting each others because they have different interest, the bruxelles burocracy is blind and not that effective. THE ONLY thing I like about the EU is the common currency and the common bank. I agree that my original comment was too harsh, it was a bad period in my life and in my country's history, now things are better and I can see more clearly. I was blaming many italian problems on the EU because my politicians lied to me back then. Now I am more clear minded. But I still dont like the political side of the EU, I like the "technical" institutions, the common research, bank, regulations etc, but it's far from being perfect. Not left against right, but sovranist (left 5 stars and rght Lega of Matteo Salvini) against pro globalization (left partito democratico and rgiht Forza Italia of Mr Berlusconi). We know that Mr Soros finances the english party for a new vote on Brexit, because jewish lobbies as you know have many citizenship but always only one nation that's jewish nation, because jewish religion is also a nation. They are afraid of nationalism and want only open society with many religions and many cuture. Here in Italy with Berlusconi and others allied they control main streem in newspapers and brodcasting television, but on the socials Matteo Salvini succeed in all elections where he is present. Tehey tell him that he is fascist, but it's not true; he is only a nationalist like Garibaldi, Mazzini and others patriots of the 19Th century. democracy is the only way to rule. But the eurpean establishment wants create a monster with no national identity. You can believe this only if you haven’t studied. The idea of Europe, of collaboration and democracy, were and are fundamental to eliminating the nationalisms that are the cause of world wars and dictatorships. My political ideas are different from the Tajani ones, but in this case he is right. I would also like to remind you that Italians know that we were accomplices of the Nazis, but we also remember the partisans who, throughout Italy, died war on them. In Italy we had a Civil War!! I hope that the misunderstandings are due to translation, because in Italian the concept that Tajani expresses is clear. Sorry for my horrible english, I tried to do the best I can ITALIANO Questa area commenti mi fa venire voglia di vomitare.

Reading some of the comments, I realise there seems to be a misunderstanding. Mr. Tajani said the EU helped defeat the dictatorships of the 20th century: that is, for the most part, not factually true (the EU was born after the fall of nazi germany and the end of world war 2 and while I can see where he is coming from when he talks about communism in eastern Europe, it seems to me that the causes for the fall of the eastern block are a lot more nuanced). That said, I think the validity of the message still stands: the EU has defeated fascism, national socialism and communism because it has been able to marginalize nationalism and authoritarian ideals by creating a sense of common identity between european nations (which is sadly being slowly eroded by buffoons like Orban and, in a less human-rights-violating way, Farage and Johnson). Europe has never known a longer period of continuous peace and relative prosperity for the entirety of it's history and while other factors may have contributed to this outcome, the existence of the EU is certainly prominent among them. That is just my opinion and, while i cannot read in Tajani's mind, I think that is what he meant. Also, now that the UK is plunging ever deeper into the shitter, this clip looks more like the sinking of the Titanic, with the difference that the captain decided to abandon the ship. Just saying.

@@sachacek I agree that München 1938 was a terrible mistake, made by a old fool, who had memories of effects the previous war. But he can hardly be blamed for starting the war, he was desperately trying to avoid it. If Britain had not stood alone against the Nazis, at massive cost, the history of Europe would have been very different. It is likely that is would be still be ruled by some tyranny of extreme right or left even now. Britain could easily have done a deal with the Nazis, fighting the British was not part of Hitlers plan. Farage didn't just try to get the UK out of the EU. There were many years when that seemed impossible, so he tried to reform the EU. Tried to make it more democratic, more open, more accountable, criticised the ridiculous amount MEP's and executives could claim on expenses, and complained about using secret ballots, complained that proper accounts were not being kept. I can tell you that he frequently had a great deal of heckling and abuse in and around the EU parliament when he did those things. But no doubt, like the BBC, your media edits out the abuse he often gets before and after his comments, and as he goes about his business.

@@sachacek Well Farage is not a natural politician, he never wanted to go into politics, he just hates the EU. He thinks and says with no filter in between. So at least you know what you are getting. Someone like president Shulz is a career politician, clever and devious. Even with the press on his side he is far more careful about what he says, but he is far more dangerous. For example he would frequently say there are Facsists amoung us, and would name no one, but stare fixededly at Farage every time. Let me give you an example of an exchange between them. Farage objects to a secret ballot. Shulz says a secret ballot is perfectly normal, for they are an electorate. Farage says that they are NOT an electorate, EVERYONE present is an employee, and their employers, the taxpayers are entitled to know how their employees vote on their behalf. There is lots of heckling and some abuse shouted at Farage from some places in the chamber. There are two things many Eurocrats hate, openness and accountability. To illustrate to the public how undemocratic the EU is Farage then points out that there was only one name on the ballot paper anyway, Junker. Again ...heckling from around the chamber. Shulz just ignores him and moves the topic on... I could give many more examples of where Farage stands up for ordinary people and taxpayers, against people like Junker and Shulz. .....Now who is the Fascist?

@@sachacek Did you not read my reply to you about secret ballots as one of many examples I could give.? Other than media propaganda there is no logical reason why you can link him to anything undemocratic. He has stood for more openness, more accountability more democracy within the EU itself all along. He is hated for those things. For most of his years there, he was probably better known for those actions, rather than trying to get the UK out of the EU because there was little hope of doing so. For nearly two decades Farage has been warning the EU that if it did not become more democratic, more open, more accountable the extreme far right and the extreme far left would become more powerful. Across most of Europe (but not the UK, but that is for other reasons) that has been the case. The rise of these factions is because the EU has not listened to people like Farage, NOT because of him. Don't blame the messenger.

There is also the two issues of ballot rigging, when votes are both secret and not overseen by the parties involved, ( and cannot be for in the grossly misnamed "parliament" where voting is mostly electronic) EU fraud is easy and almost impossible to prove. Secondly representatives may vote one way to get approval from people they work for/with/on behalf of, and then tell their electorate that they voted another, to get votes from their electorate. There is no need for any secret ballots within the EU they are all employees, supposedly working for the taxpayer (ha ha).

The mess we are in now is because John Major signed away democratic rights and powers of law making and governance over UK citizens, over to an unaccountable foreign organisation without ANY electoral consent, by way of manifesto or referendum. As anti EU parties started to rise, their way was blocked by both parties promising referendums, only to renege on those promises once in power and they realised what the outcome would be. Only after a quarter of a century, when polls showed a comfortable win for remain we we allowed ANY say in who rules over us or who we pay taxes to. (on the way Blair/Brown signed us into the Lisbon treaty which got rid of rights of veto, and OK'd the EU Constitution. ) The Government, instead of providing a platform for sensible debate, began and ended the race to the bottom with an outrageous propaganda campaign using taxpayers money, and fantasy treasury reports. As an American listening to this... I hate the EU because independent countries shouldn't be controlled by Brussels which is what the EU is doing... France doesn't need the EU... Same goes for the British & any country... You can all make Independent trade deals that will greatly benefit your countries over relying upon trade with the EU... As far as ww1 & ww2 is concerned yes America played its part in helping to free Europe... No one should deny that. Yet every country played there part as well... Russia is the country that really broke Germany in WW2... If Germany never invaded Russia losing a million soldiers who knows how hard it would've been to defeat them... The USA did its part in giving the British what they needed in War materials to get by... We even gave Russia War Materials... The biggest part the USA played was fighting Japan.... You can hate America all you want but there is no denying the role they played in helping Europe in both world wars.

Never hated America but tge socialist element of the EU does. I'm hugely grateful & respectful to the role it's played as our ally in two horrific and bloody wars. I do fear though that we may be asking for their help again to keep the west free from radical Islam & Marxism which this bunch of EU cockroaches has imported or grown in our European nations.

The European Union was born in 1993. Before there was the EEC , which granted peace at least as much as the EU today, but didn't reduce the member states' sovereignty as the EU. Personally, I regret the EEC.

EEC and before that the European Common Market were only stepping stones to take us where we are today. It was a tactic they used . This is what they had in mind from the begiinning. and God knows where the rabbit hole will lead Certainly the destruction of Europe as we now know it, This is an evil institution worse than the Soviet Union. Had they proposed what we now have from the beginning nobody would have joined. I repeat the EU is an evil institution devised and ruled by the financial elite whose only concern is the New World Order.

Yeah, because as we all know, 70 years of peace is common place in Europ-- oh... this is weird. Huh, lo-- no, no, constant war in Europe. That's weird, the period of peace started after the creation of the ECSC, which became the EEC, and then the EU. Weird. It's almost like the formation of this Economic (and then also political) Union made EU countries so reliant and intertangled that war was no longer possible. That or mysteriously we have a huge coincidence that major European wars ceased right after. @Amel Camel The EU used to be the EEC which did exist throughout the Cold War.

Britain fought Italy and Germany for two years before The US entry, when every Continental nation, except Sweden and Switzerland were occupied. Only Poland gets a "Pass" for bein' occupied, given it's heroism against the'Blitzkrieg. Oh, about Britain, must also commend Canada and The Empire for their contributions to the defense of The Realm.

. This Italian can insult Mr Farage ad nauseum but it would seem that the Italian must not be laughed at albeit what he said is totally absurd. The museum of European history bizarrely charts history only from post 1945. Often one hears too that it is the EU which has created peace when we all know that it is NATO. This Italian really has his knickers in a twist and I, like Nigel, would be laughing at the stupid statement and the puerile rant of abuse. He says respect several times but I doubt if he thinks respect is a two- way street and is something that is earned not demanded in civilised society. And Mrs May and Remainers want to keep us under the authority of such EU idiots. Thank goodness Silvini runs Italy for this Tajani is a basket case. I suppose next we will hear that the Nazis were helping Jewish persons back in the 1940s and not exterminating them. Perhaps that fascists in Italy were victims too? When one sees the mindset, manners , rhetoric of EU mandarins toward the UK and Hungary it is not surprising that Brexit happened and was right to. The insults bullying and demands by the EU are preposterous and show them in their true light and in fact shows too that cordiale after 40 years is little more than a facade and totally conditional on being sycophantic to the EU dream. EU trade is only worth 10% GDP; there are 504m persons. Surely trading with the world where there are billions off persons we could easily gain this 10% allegedly to be lost and we would not have endless times and money wasted on facile EU meetings etc. We should be putting all our effort in to getting world trade set up with those who want to deal with us freely and sensibly and not with EU who only deal in negative and barriers and protracted nonsensical narrative and charge us exorbitant fees for the privilege.
