I played the same(but protectorates not allowed also) but my strategy was to make 3 armies for 3 continents, small force in Americas taking what can be held without rebellion, Indian army killing Marathas in their crib to later conquer good parts of india while abandoning bad parts to non faction rebels. In europe I conquered flanders and France, also Rhineland in the east. My intention is conquering Germany and destroying Spain. My navies capturing ships everywhere is the funding of the war. So Britain is kinda more profitable to not conquer especially considering I can't abandon it to rebels. Interesting strategy you have here. I think US becoming independent makes British conquest detrimental.

I see your point about GB wise move. I took them for the money and a possible fall back if holding Netherlands became to difficult.

@@FaramirsRangers No protectorates will be a long slog. It's possible, as I did without one until after I took Spain and Tunisia, and could then Protectorate Barbary States, in the late 1710's. One really sees the player-throttling effect of Admin. Cost playing without any Trade Income. I took England and Scotland, then caged G.B. up in Ireland with one cheap naval unit - that sits on the strait over to Scotland and razes Waterford every turn. This has become a standard pattern for me to prevent appearance of U.S.A. If I need to extend it, then I give them Corsica and take Ireland for the income gain. However, if you take out G.B. early enough then, I believe, Thirteen Colonies becomes independent without spawning U.S.A. I missed that on this play-through.

Those fort battles ending so abruptly can be really annoying, especially in moments where you cause a mass route and hundreds of infantry are just ready to be annihil... NOPE battle over and everyone gets to leave freely.

It's because, without any artillery, cavalry alone cannot assault a fort. So once all infantry is routed the battle ends.
