off to the wharf in the morning sun, down to the hold for weeks and months...this line pierces me every time

I'd been familiar with British folk music since the early 1970s but discovered Acadian folk in 1990 on my first visit to Montreal. In French or English it's great music. Thanks @AdamRuzzo for posting this.

I love this! It brings to mind Fairport Convention and I've always loved them. Nice singing, playing and videography!

I am not Canadian, but was born, raised and continue to live in a region highly influenced by the Cajuns here. Never knew their sad history until this song prompted me to read up on it. At any rate, it didn't occur to me how much their culture is embedded into all of our lives here until I started thinking about it with this song. I'm very happy to be a part of it all.

Cool! It’s quite the tale. I did a video (search Alan melanson) with an 8th generation Acadian (Cajun) who tells the stories very well !

Do you live in NS or were you visiting? I've always felt that there should be way more traditional Acadian music out there. I'd very much like to produce an album. I'm Acadian from the Yarmouth area (Abram's River), currently living in HRM. If you're in the province we should meet up sometime to jam and possibly record some music! Cheers

Sounds good! I’m sort of a nomad around Canada. I was living near Annapolis royal, loved it there. I almost bought land around there! You should check out my video on Alan melanson, he’s a hardcore Acadian historian/tour guide in Annapolis royal 👍
