Farewell DAF DB250 Lowlander Buses With Arriva Yorkshire

Nice video. Absolutely gutted to see them go. I’ve got a few corrections regarding 1621: It was actually new to Derby. The PN52s were intended for Derby though 4 did get diverted to Leicester to cover the losses caused by the recent Wigston depot fire. They moved to Leicester in 2009 to help with a shortage following the withdrawal of the Scania N113DRBs and a few Volvo Olympians. You mentioned 10 transfers though only 9 entered service. It’s actually 9, only 8 entering service. The vehicle with the mechanical faults you’re probably thinking of is XRO (4738). That actually came off the road in November 2014. Additionally, XRS (4741) is what should have been 1624. That never transferred to Yorkshire as Aylesbury nabbed it last minute to replace an accident damaged KL52 ALX400.

These will be missed, The DB250 has got to be my favourite bus, especially in the Spectra form as arriva also had until recently

In terms of moquettes, the names are; 'Bridge' - the moquette these were new in 'Coloured blocks' - the faint colour version of the moquette seen here, being a short lived one, replaced by... 'Revised Blocks' - the moquette seen here. Then there was also a black based moquette but I've never found a name for that one specifically lol

I remember 1600-1613 delivered to Dewsbury new. They had design faults with the drivers seats and had to be reconfigured and made more adaptable for all types of drivers. They also had two different steering wheel versions too. 1600-8 i think had small centro/commander wheels and the rest had bigger ones that looked similar to the spectra. 1604 was my choice as a rally bus in 2006/7 and went to 4 rallies including the East Lancs factory rally and they commented by saying 'whats wrong with now' 😂 Good buses.

There are still some Lowlanders in service with Arriva in Luton and Dunstable. There are also a number of 2000's W reg tridents that are still kicking about. If you are ever in area (I know it is quite a distance from Yorkshire to Bedfordshire, I would recommend filming them if you wanted, as it is believed that they maybe nearing end of service in the next year or two.

All withdrawn now sadly. The Lowlanders left us during COVID because of mechanical issues and low passenger numbers with them not being required. One of them was withdrawn because the gearbox literally blew up! The 2000's W reg tridents were withdrawn just after COVID, and the last one was withdrawn 2 month ago today. They were all great buses!

Great video Alex, on a type I never really liked (not an East Lancs fan). Even so I will be out in the coming days to try and capture all four. I was in Cleckheaton on the same morning as you and wondered why 1621 stayed parked in Cleckheaton. I got a shot of 1613, but not 1621 as other vehicle movements got in the way and the need for me to get a bus. As it turned out I would had time to grab both, but stayed put hoping my bus would turn up, which it didn’t!

I could be wrong but as far as I remember when these were new on the 202/203 They were some of the first to have speech announcements of the bus stops and also had names after the Mr, Men books. One of them was also named Billy Brenner Altough I could be wrong

The buses (except 1621) were bought for the 202/3. The Enviro 400s bought in 2008 1900-1913 had the mister men on And a late 90s batch of Optare Spectras were the first to get next stop

Farewell DAF Lowlanders, I'm surprised XRM has survived and is still going strong now but I can see that going Barnsley after withdrawal, despite the amount of interest of preservation from people.
