I saw episode 1 of season 5. Got hooked. Watched seasons 1-4 in a week on the PBS App so I was ready for the next episode on Sunday. I think it was popular because it has heart. Loved the movie. Can’t wait for the next movie.

At about 25:44, Gareth Neame says "Nobody in America knew what an entail was" but if you read To Kill a Mockingbird (set in the U.S. south in the 1930s), farmers were still having problems then with land being entailed. This may not come out in the movie, but it does in the book.

Excellent point; I'd forgotten about that. I'm afraid my knowledge is still from "Pride and Prejudice." Matthew Crawley turned out to be a far better cousin-heir than William Collins.

At 52:38 the moderator uses the phrase, "literally busted a gut". She evidently does not understand the meaning of the word "literally". I am quite sure that no one LITERALLY busted a gut arranging to have the trailer available to that audience.

Downton Abbey is a marvellous television series. It deals with so many interesting subjects at the same time. All the actors and actresses are wonderful. Everybody enhances Dame Maggie Smith, as though she is the best. Well, she is the best. But so are all the others...... And one of the main wonders of this series is that you want to see it again and again. I am waiching it for the third time, and still i feel that there are some characters i don't remember (those which play minor parts of course). And there are still words i want to hear again and if possible learn them by heart. i sometimes feel mysell saying "Yes, milady" "Yes, milord". it deals mainly with the great change in society for both the upper classes and the lower classes. And I feel that al lhese characters are mu froemds and relation. Congratulations Julian Fellows. Congratulation ALL the actors and actresses. Congratulations ot all those who in one way or anothe have helped this TV series to be one of the wonderful TV progremmes of all times. Thank you all for giving me some wonderful moments. I gobbled the entire series on Amazon only stopping to eat sleep and go to the bathroom. Thank the Lord for Amazon Prime! Would you consider a spin off? Would love to see these charcters travel the decades perhaps into late '40's early 50's...please??

I didn't watch it when it was televised. A friend gave me the box set so I was able to watch it from start to finish during Lockdown in 2020. Bliss. Brilliant. Then I caught up with the first movie and am seeing New Era next week. Fabulous.
