Hi! We are An and Jeff Scott, two happily retired septuagenarians from the USA, who had a dream. That dream was to retire in France. So, we sold most of our “stuff”, packed and shipped the rest, and with our bossy little Yorkie, Bella, said “goodbye” to the USA. We moved from the sunny coast of southwest Florida to the sunny coast of the south of France, to enjoy our “golden years” and embrace the “joie de vivre” available to us, here in beautiful Nice, France.
Moving from the USA to a foreign country was no small “project”. Through our videos, we’ve been taking you through the Long Stay Visa process, the packing, the purging, the moving, searching for an apartment, creating a great Dossier, learning the way things are done administratively in France, and sharing the steps, talking about what we’ve learned and the ups and the downs.
And now, we continue to share our life, our new life, here in Nice, getting settled, adjusting to the “French” way of doing things, dealing with the French “red tape” and all the while, making every wonderful day in Nice, the best day ever…

A couple of months ago while I was still in Nice, I thought I saw the two of you crossing Bd Dubouchage. But I was headed in the opposite direction, and by the time I convinced myself that it really was you, we were about a block apart. I was doing last-minute errands because I was leaving in a day or so, and in a bit of a hurry. However, after seeing your neighborhood in this video, I believe it is my neighborhood, also! I will be back in late March, so maybe I will see you around there again.

LOL! It is not warm here! We have been wearing jackets and coats since September. We wake up to temperatures in the low 40's. Often it will be in the 60's in the sunshine at the top of the afternoon, but it's definitely not what we'd call WARM, here in NIce.

happy continued adventures to you two in 2025 ! after watching video i cant help but wonder, why at this time in your life, you are jumping thru frusrating the hoops to obtain your french drivers license?
@postcardsfromourgoldenyears
@postcardsfromourgoldenyears Ай бұрын
We don't feel that we jumped through hoops for a France driving license. We simply filed the necessary application and provided the necessary documents to make an exchange. We've both been driving in the US for our entire adult lives--since we were teenagers. Having a driving license in general is not "new" for us. While we don't own a car, here in France, we do occasionally rent a car when we travel to places too far away from public transportation. Our US driver's licenses would only be valid for 1 year, here. We simply exchanged our existing US driver's licenses for France licenses so we can drive legally, in France. Actually, what we did, is quite EASY, compared to people who have never had a driver's license before or those who come from a state that doesn't have a reciprocity agreement with France. Those people have to take driving classes, take tests, and it costs a lot of money. Our driver's license exchange was quite easy, just time consuming.

@@postcardsfromourgoldenyears merci for responding with your thoughts on this sub ubject... as someone who is looking to live car free as i get older ... the experience of someone actually doing it is invaluable advice

@diannamoynihan1377 you can definitely live car free in this part of France. Nice has an excellent public transportation system and it's also lovely to get out and walk. From where we live in central Nice, we can walk to most places we like to go to within around 15 minutes, at most. We generally get on a bus or tram if we're short on time. And since we moved in April, we have only rented a car 3x, and only when necessary to get where we're going.

How much French do you speak?
@postcardsfromourgoldenyears
@postcardsfromourgoldenyears Ай бұрын
Lots! I studied for 8 yrs back in my school days in Jr. High, High School and College and while I don't remember everything I learned over 50+ years ago, I've been traveling to France at least once a year since the mid 1990's, so a lot of it has come back to me. I'm not fluent but speak well enough to get complimented by French people all the time. I have my moments where I'm clueless but can make my needs known, in French. If you live in France, you really need to learn French. It's a lot different than coming here as a tourist and going to businesses that cater to tourists. When you live here, you need to know how to do other things that aren't related to tourism, like dealing with applications, bureaucracy, notices, customer service departments, and many places where employees don't speak English... or want to.

You really need to invest in external microphones when doing videos outdoors. Your voices are constantly being drowned out by background noise to the extent that it spoils the videos.
@postcardsfromourgoldenyears
@postcardsfromourgoldenyears Ай бұрын
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. We have very good microphones. We don't always "plan" to make our videos ahead of time. We're out. We think we might want to share someplace we went impulsively, We decide to shoot some video. The microphones are at home. If we go home and plan this all out, by the time we come back, we've lost the moment. And, honestly, we're not trying to be professional videographers. We want to share exactly what we see and hear "in the moment". We pulled out a cellphone and shot video. In that bar/restaurant, we couldn't hear each other speak. I'm not sure microphones would have helped. We think what you see is far more important that a lot of what we say, unless we are showing you "how to" complete an application or do something. Accept it as is. These are moments in our lives. Thanks.
