I didn’t know it at the time of filming, but this video would be one of my last rides on the Air Canada Boeing 767.
The remaining few in the mainline fleet were retired with very little fanfare earlier this week, after having served the airline for over 30 years.
A rather unceremonious end for such a historic workhorse, but I was glad to have flown on it a few more times before retirement.

I love how ACA's old IFE system runs on Windows XP.

Judging by the mouse pointer, I was picturing some version of embedded Linux with a cursor theme that could probably be downloaded separately. The mouse cursor theme resembles something that was used by default in late versions of Red Hat Linux, early versions of Fedora, and versions of Red Hat Enterprise Linux that were based on those, however it'd be more likely for an IFE system to use an embedded Linux distro like something from MontaVista in order to only have what is needed to run the IFE software.

Thank-you Alex for a most wonderful flight review of an aircraft that will now pass into the realm of nostalgia. During a time when I did the majority of my overseas traveling, the 767 was always the airline’s choice for those particular flights. Even though the 777 was widely available, I was so glad my flights were on the 767. I suspect that the passenger and freight capacities of the 767 will become popular in the future, but there are several reasons why upgrading a 767 is very difficult without recertifying the variant. Rather than detail the reasons here, I have found some very interesting articles as to why, if you or any of your subscribers are interested in pursuing it. I am exceptionally impressed with Air Canada’s business class lounge. Not only is it exceptionally clean, but what is most impressive to me is how clean the staff keeps the food table esthetically pleasing. As for your flight, I too am not a fan of the herringbone configuration. I am one who used to travel before the IFE’s became popular. During the flight, I would practically paste my forehead to the window, even if the ground was not visible due to cloud cover. Otherwise, I generally had my head buried in a book or failing miserably in my book of “easy” crossword puzzles. Nevertheless, your seat did appear to be very comfortable, and I do like the privacy it offered. It is especially nice if someone has to get up for whatever reason and not bother one’s neighbor. Furthermore, I do like how the head of the seat is away from the aisle. For whatever reason, whenever I have had to sit in an aisle seat, everyone who walked by seemed compelled to bump into my seat. The one thing I wish I could figure out is how to sneak onboard some condiments to spruce up the meals. Based on my experience, the meals never seem to come with enough salt, pepper, butter, and salad dressing; or the salad dressing is some off-the-wall, esoteric type I have never tasted. Some Tabasco Sauce and mixed spices could also come in handy. Thank-you again sir for a most wonderfully produced travel report. Although I am not always able to comment on your videos, I do always make it a point to view them.

Going to miss seeing them on the ramp. They were extremely easy to work on from a ground crew perspective. Everything was accessible without the need of ladders. Ground power, C1/C2 cargo bay doors as well as water fill were a breeze to access. Even putting on the bridge was easier as you didn’t have to worry about lining up with enough room to accommodate a swing out door as the slid upward within the fuselage. The Prats also had a great sound on startup during pushback.

I like the 767, flew on it a few times in 1990 - 91. On the last Flight on it, it turned out to be the Gimli Glider. I was quite pleased cause I figured that Airframe had already had it's misfortune and based the Laws of Probability, it would the safest of the Fleet. On that Flight my Son and I were allowed to go into the cockpit for about 10 minutes while over Manitoba. I still have the Photos I took in the Cockpit.

I was fortunate to get to fly one of the older 767-300ER to narita . The particular aircraft had first flow in 1988. Was a pretty smooth ride. I also noted us intersecting with the Vancouver Narita flight as we passed 1000-2000 ft above it somewhere near Stuart, BC. Definitely older interiors with a little bit cheap looking LED bin lights. Clean and safe though. Sad to see them go.

Just to clarify, at 10:25, you mentioned that being a domestic flight, you implied that there was no down turn service. Even slippers are only offered going to Asia, and not on other long haul flights!

With the retirement of Air Canada’s 767’s is also the retirement of the last remaining Canadian Airlines planes that (was) operated by the successor (Air Canada) as mentioned in the video. On a separate note: I find it interesting Air Canada never installed winglets on there 767’s. Could it be they planned on retiring there 767’s before the 737 MAX situation?

Also many great memories of overseas flights in the pods on the 767s. With the 767s gone, all (or most) of the AC widebodies that offer Signature Class pods now also have a Premium Economy section with seating more like the narrow-body Business Class seating, although a bit less legroom. So on routes where wide bodies and narrow bodies are mixed together, Signature Class on the wide bodies normally costs more than Business Class on the narrow bodies.
