With my help, over many years, dad and I built almost all of the furniture in their 2,800 sf home, and more. When he was about 80, he told me that for our next project, he would like to build his own casket. We went to the local funeral home to find out what would fit in a burial vault and then made the project by milling left over rough sawn oak into the boards and moldings that we needed. We completed the casket except for the upholstery lining, built a crate to protect it, and stood it in the corner shop. It was built like a piece of fine furniture. After he died, my children helped me install the upholstery/lining and we delivered it to the funeral home. Finishing the upholstery with my three children brings back bitter sweet memories. He died in 2019 at 86. I miss my dad.

Sorry about your father. It's nice that you and him were able to do that together. I wish that I would have been able to do something like that with my father but he died unexpectedly in an accident. We were able to get him a nice casket but it's not quite the same. Thanks for watching.

Just remember, there's a place in heaven for you. You're a great man for doing this for a family that needed it. someday you'll see your father again. And he'll tell you how proud he is of you. My prayers are going out to you and the family that you built this for.

Nice job, well done! I once went with a boat building buddy, to his parents house in a different state. They had a huge dinning room table with all sorts of exotic wood inlays. It had been a thing of beauty but it was all sprung ,warped and popping off. I asked about it. My friends brother built the table . The brother used to work in a coffin factory and made the table with off cuts. The reason the table was falling apart was he used coffin glue ! Think Elmer.

I was a very young teenager when I saw a group of older men hand made a coffin for my grandfather. It was made out of white oak. The bottom and top was one piece!!! The sides were steam bent. My Aunts, His daughters hand sewed the lining !

We actually sold that chicken shortly after this project. I had a couple people tell me that they liked the video, especially the chicken. I'm wondering if I need to try to buy her back since she was the star of the show. Thanks for watching.
