Wade and Stan are reasonably smart. Didn't they think it was a little suspicious that the day after they decline loaning Jerry $750,000 (after all, they're not a bank), that Jerry's wife is kidnapped for a $1million ransom?

I like the fact that they could have made Jean be this spoiled, self-absorbed rich girl but instead she's just as wholesome, kind-hearted, and humble as Marge and Norm. It makes her death all the more tragic because she thought she had the marriage that Norm and Marge have.

I see him as more the ultimate right hand man than just a toady. I think he likes to serve another person, and he's found a person he likes serving in Wade. Wade’s big mistake was not considering that Showalter might have a gun. The way Carl was yelling at him should have put him on guard. But Wade was sure that he could reason with the ‘Punk’, as he thought of him in advance, that he didn’t expect that Showalter would draw first and shoot him. Think of the names, btw: SHOWalter and GRIMSrud. Showy and Grim.

The interaction between Wade and Jerry tells you everything you need to know about their relationship. He doesn't like him or even hate him - infact even worse Wade has no regard for Jerry as a person , he tolerates him purely for his daughter's sake . Truth is this mirrors how most people in the film - with the exception of his wife and son see Jerry as ( a meek and somewhat incompetent man , who's neither likeable or destable). They initially listen to what he's about to say , but when he stumbles over himself they react with either confusion at best , annoyance or even anger at his bumbling incompetence. Harvey Presnell was brilliant as Wade Gusterson . Wade's an arrogant hardass and a bit of a jerk - which is actually what makes him such an enjoyable character.

@hoarder1919
@hoarder1919 3 жыл бұрын
it *is* revealed though, they just dont shove it in our throats. Jerry was involved in some kind of fraud and stole some money. In a bit more detail, he seems to get money for selling non-existent cars. The company he sold the cars to is now wanting the money back because they can't find the cars' serial numbers. So Jerry needs the money to return them to those he conned. the real question is that why doesnt he have the money he stole, where did they go? He doesnt seem to be a money waster, he doesnt do drugs or hookers or expensive cars so where did it all go?

@@kh_qft762 no, we just dont know what he needed money for initially, before the crime (and before the movie - thats important). But we do know what we needed the money for IN the movie. I understand thats what the question was about: what Jerry needs money for in the context of the movie, what exactly is the Jerry's need that started the plot of the movie. And the answer to that is: to cover up his initial money fraud.

Jerry borrowed money from GMAC Financing using the dealership as collateral. He failed to repay the loan and they were now demanding repayment in full, which he couldn't afford.
