A way to make the Islamic Dilemma argument stronger is that the terms used in Arabic (transliterated as 'ma bayna ya dayhee') to refer to the prior Scriptures directly translates to "within his/their hands". So, the Quran is affirming the Jews and Christians possessed physical copies of the scriptures that could be held in their hands at the time of Muhammad.

The martyrdom of the Apostles and how they gained nothing from starting Christianity. No wealth accumulated, no power gained in the faith until long after their deaths, and no women acquired in their work of spreading the Gospel. The three motivators of sinful men (money, power, and women) are not present in their stories. The gruesome ends and the Gospel that they gave us is their only legacy. The Dead sea scrolls confirming the prophecies that Jesus fulfilled were given hundreds of years before His birth. And the non Christian sources confirming that some of those fulfillments. Does Islam have authentic external sources that confirm what it say? Do even its enemies confirm their scriptures because even they cannot deny the truth of it? Does Islam have multiple manuscripts from multiple languages that show it's message cannot be corrupted? Does Islam have martyrs that gained no money, power, or women? Nor promises of such things? Does Islam have physical sources like scraps of manuscripts that are undeniably the Quran from within 30 to 50 years of it's prophet's death? Does Islam have fulfilled prophecies that even their enemies cannot deny? I'm sure you'll try to bring up contradictions or missing verses, but then I will have to ask... even if I pretend your accusation of corruption is true, does Islam have the things that I am asking for? Undeniable external authentic evidence from it's enemies that confirms it... martyrs and leaders that gained nothing sinfully motivating... manuscripts of the previous scriptures that confirm prophecy fulfillment... because that is all any Christian apologist ever asks from the Muslims, and no Muslim has answered the call. The washing of feet in John 13 serves as a good counterexample: Jesus dresses Himself in a towel (lowers Himself) and washes the disciples' feet (takes on the form of a servant). He explains that this will only make sense to them later. This is a sort of play acting or representation of the Incarnation: Jesus (God the Son), lowers Himself and takes on the form of a servant, giving His life as a ransom for many. In the same way He dressed Himself in a towel as a servant to wash his followers' feet, using his garment to absorb the filth from them, He took on the life of a man to give that life and absorb the sins of mankind. There is no contradiction between Jesus's body requiring food while remaining God the Son. He took on the form of a man, men need food. God the Son, during His earthly time as a man, required food. This is basic Christology, a basic understanding of the Incarnation. The contradiction only exists if you refuse to accept the Incarnation long enough to discuss it. Ultimately, the Islamic idea of God's nature is radically different from the Christian one. You can't use the Islamic understanding of God when discussing Christianity, in the same way you cannot use the Christian one when discussing Islam.

In the Quran, Allah never associates a falsehood with Himself or with His prophets. @7:50 In 5.43, Allah is saying that "they (Jews) have the Torah". Allah always mentions Himself as a source for these scripture when He is talking about them as truth. Thereby associating the Truth with Himself as a true fact. So in Quran, Allah distinct Himself with His creation and it is the mankind who has to decide whether to follow the law or not. I have tried to post a link to a video that explains the Qur'an Dilemma, as understood by critics. Obviously, Muslims do not recognise that there is a dilemma. I hope David Wood doesn't mind if I summarise the points made in his video: Quran (Q.) 29:94 says to believe what has been revealed, that Allah is the same god worshipped by Jews and Christians. However, the Christian Bible describes God as a Trinity, that the incarnate Jesus (the Second Person of the Trinity) d ied on a cross and was resurrected. The Bible contradicts the Qur'an, so Allah is not the same as the Christian god. Q. 3:3-4 says that Allah revealed the Qur'an, Torah and Gospel. But Allah didn't protect his revealed word in the Torah and Gospel. Consequently, Muslims claim that the earlier Scriptures have been corrupted (they have changed interpretations or in meaning). However, Q. 18:27 says that no-one can change Allah's Word. But the Torah and Gospel are understood to be God's Word. Apparently, Muslims claim that Paul the apostle corrupted the message of the Gospel. Regardless, Q. 7:157 claims that Muhammad is mentioned in the Torah and Gospel. But they have been corrupted, so can't be relied upon to mention him. Furthermore, Q. 5:47 tells the people of the Gospel to judge by what is in their Book. But how can they be expected to judge by a corrupted book? Christians are forced to conclude that the Qur'an is false if they are to use the Gospel as their criterion. Q. 5:68 says that no-one has ground to stand on if they do not stand fast on the Torah and Gospel, which come from God. Q. 10:94 tells Muhammad that if he doubts Allah's revelations then he should ask those who have been reading the Scripture before him. This means that the Bible stands in judgement over the Qur'an. Either way, according to the Qur'an Dilemma, Islam is false: it either contradicts or confirms the Bible.

Claiming that the _Torah_ and _Injil_ mentioned in the Qur'an are not the same Torah and Gospel(-s), as found in the Hebrew Bible and New Testament, does not solve the Qur'an Dilemma, either. As has been pointed out, we (humanity) have near-complete manuscripts from the first and second centuries BC of the Torah (in Hebrew and Greek). Though they contain textual variants, they are basically the same as copies which existed in Muhammad's lifetime; as well as copies we have today. There has been no corruption of the Torah. Likewise, we have the Psalms and books of the Prophets being mentioned in the Qur'an; which were extant during the time of Muhammad (e.g. Q. 4:163 & 5:43). The story is much the same for the Gospel(-s), but things are a little different when it comes to the Qur'an: (what I will refer to as) the Islamic Injil is different from the Biblical Gospels in many respects. To be sure, the Islamic Injil never existed in and of itself That is, as a text existing independently from the Qur'an. It was never its own 'book'; not even an oral text. Neither was it attested to independently by contemporaries of Muhammad, nor critiqued by Muslims or Christians either. It appears to be missing from History! And yet Gospel passages are quoted and referred to, both within and throughout, the Qur'an. Although the Qur'an tends to speak of the Gospel in the singular, Q. 3:65 does refer to Gospels (plural); just as Q. 10:94 refers to Scriptures (plural). This should not come as a surprise since the Islamic Injil appears to be a patchwork of verses borrowed from various ('apocryphal') sources, such as the _Protevangelion of James_ , _The Infancy Gospel of Thomas_ and the _Diatesseron_ (or perhaps the biblical Gospels themselves?) as evidenced in Q. 3:35-63 & 5:109-15 and elsewhere. It should be understood, however, that direct quotes from the various gospels are few and far between: the written text of the Qur'an is evidently based on oral performances; written down some time after their original performance (or revelation, if one prefers). Instead of plagiarising the Bible, the Qur'an employs thematic reflections and 'mimesis' (original texts are changed in terms of meaning and emphasis, or else presents a means to compare and contrast key figures with their rival counterparts: i.e. the replacement of the messenger Jesus with the messenger Muhammad). This may occur for stylistic as well as theological reasons. Furthermore, as a consequence of oral transmission, textual richness is lost in the re-telling (i.e. names, places, quantities, date references, and so on get forgotten). The Qur'an typically communicates the _gist_ of original texts, so it can hardly be relied upon or be understood as 'correcting' earlier Scriptures! So, in some sense, Muslims are correct in saying that the _Injil_ is not the Bible or New Testament or any of the canonical Gospels. But they are wrong in that it constitutes something else entirely. The Injil is based on Christian texts, but, ironically, also represents a corruption of the Message (for example, Q. 4:155-61 is definitely a reinterpretation of the Crucifixion story).

This becomes obvious when comparing the length of surrounding verses: verse 157 is very much longer than, say, any other ten verses either side of it. This is evidence of interpolation(-s). Removing the apparent interpolations, Q. 4:155-8 should read: "And so for breaking their [Jews] pledge, for rejecting Allah's revelations, for unjustly kil ling their prophets, for saying 'Our minds are closed' and because they disbelieved and uttered a terrible slander against Mary, and said, 'We have killed the Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary, the Messenger of Allah, Allah raised him up to Himself. Allah has the power to decide." You see, 'they' (Jews) didn't kill Jesus by crucifixion: the Romans crucified him, but he died much sooner than expected. Jesus died on the cross, but he didn't die of crucifixion. Besides, it was neither the Jews nor the Romans who killed Jesus: read Q. 8:14 to learn that Allah caused him to die and be raised him up to Himself; just as Christians believe.
