MSP is literally good but most farmer in my own village, neighborhood don't know what is MSP. EXAMPLE: MSP for cotton is rs.58 but we sold at 45. When I say about msp their reply is ”no one doesn't buy for that price”. MSP is good but implementating as pan India requires great executive strength. 2. Most of farmer is very poor in digital literacy. They don't know to list their product, then packing, shipping etc. it only benefit few section of farmer who quit IT and start farming.

Even though assured MSP is given , I think chances are less Lot of practical issues happen like 1.Most of the farmer's are uneducated they didn't know about market demand, price analysis etc which gives more advantages to corporates 2.Some of the products are like dairy, fruits needs a temperature controlled warehouses for storage purposes they can't afford it, so they are forced to sell at anycost 3.There is high risk in price increase, Corporates buy a product at low-cost from farmers and sell it whatever price they want, No price regulations 4. Government has lost their powers and role in Market, Supply and Demand of Commodities that can be controlled by corporates now

Government was able to make these laws under item 33 which speaks about trade and commerce and Item 34 which speaks about price control of the concurrent list . Essential commodities act was passed by central govt using entry 33 . As sir said, Amendment which includes MSP will solve half the issue.

Nicely explained sir, How are the farmers selling now ? 1. They go to a mandi and the person in the mandi fixes the rate and they sell their products 2. AMI Scheme is a demand driven scheme. So far, a total of 38,964 storage infrastructure projects (Godowns), with storage capacity of 655.48 Lakh MT have been sanctioned across the country under the scheme. A Rs 1 lakh crore Agriculture Infrastructure Fund (AIF) has been launched to facilitate the development of farmgate infrastructure, that includes collection centres and pre-processing facilities amongst others. 3. The reality is that the vast majority of Indian farmers deal with private markets, where there is no protection if prices go below MSP”. “Eighty-one percent of the cultivators are aware of MSP fixed for different crops in various states while 67% of the farmers sold their produces through their own arrangements”. So majority of the farmers can deal with markets and learn gradually and we need to start somewhere. 4. A recent report from the United Nations revealed that more Indians have access to mobile phones than toilets. There are mobile apps which provide information about everything related to farming but farmers are not aware of it. So, its the responsibility of the present youths to take up farming and help the farmers or at least make them aware of the schemes and facilities provided to them. . 5. The main problem in the bills is they didn't talk about the MSP. Experts have pointed out that only 6% of all farmers benefited from public procurement at MSP. 6. Farmers will be able to enter into agreements with food processors to grow processable varieties and sell them at assured prices. Nor will they be restricted in to whom and where they sell their produce. They can also enter into agreements with farm service providers. This will give the ‘Farming as a Service’ (FaaS) a huge fillip. Several agri-tech startups operate in this space, utilising technologies such as AI to provide crop intelligence as well as grade and assay produce. Enabling technological interventions in Indian agriculture has the potential to transform this sector, based on the strong foundations these reforms enable.

I find it misleading when you ask, "Why is the government hessitant to incorporate MSP in the law?". You fail to mention that so far MSP has not been put in writings in any law. Which means that there has never been a legal obligation to enforce MSP. Even now without any ammendment to any existing law the government could withdraw MSP support without any legal repurcussion. Still MSP is enforced till date. Then why the sudden fear? Only one answer comes to my mind. The fear is stoked and fueled by politics and nothing else.

Important part of UPSC is current affairs and News paper is a great source than TV news. People say Indian Express is better but I personally prefer Hindu. Editorial is my favourite. It isn't written by Hindu people. Anyone can write Editorial. Whether it's Economy, Business, Indian news or International news, I feel Hindu is better. This doesn't mean I haven't read Indian Express.

Since Govt adheres to NFS Act 2013 , They have to procure grains , to procure grains the govt also should attract farmers with good price(MSP) . Which means that Govt itself will be the largest buyer even if Corporates enter into the business . correct me if I am wrong.

Hi Aishwarya, MSP have been mentioned as a mere definition in NFS act. MSP here is circumvented through the way of abolishing or extending the scope beyond precincts of APMC . With this prevailing of void , there seems to be no government's role in assuring the price. Here crux is APMC and if it is not there everything will be toppled in an implicit way. Its a loophole. Thanks.

However, what you have not mentioned here is that even now MSP does not have any legal backing making it a right for the farmers to claim. Also, on your statement that the market prices are more than the MSP is also wrong. The market prices are less than that of the MSP.

Another clarification . sir you said MSP is not mentioned in new farm bills. As far as I know MSP is never backed by any legislation. Its is not removed or left out. This bill is neither remove nor add it because it never had any legislation. But I accept ot is good that this law backs MSP with qlty constraints for the price paid by taxpayers.

This is my replay to this comment *alone* Bro pls go through Shanta Kumar Committee report on msp.... it says only 6% benefit from MSP and Niti Aayog report says only 81% know about MSP. Some farmers who know abt msp are not able to reach the mandis becs they lack transportation. nd the storage facility is only about 5% of wat is needed.... And only 22 items are under msp... So i doubt MSP is doing good to all farmers.. but to some its true... And i think the one who is most worried is those states which get most of their revenue from APMCs registration and i dont wanna mention about the politics behind these... What happened in RS is not our area, constitution doesn't give us authority to question them..... These 3 reforms are " ideally" flawless.... But the way it will be implemented........... Lets wait and see

Taken all together, people of our country are the most enterprising, innovative, motivated, capable, responsible, reliable and level-headed work force anywhere in the world. Yes, I know; I have worked in six continents and worked with colleagues there, as well as in our own, over 30 years. Our country has the best climate, natural resources and land in the world. Then why is our national income is so low and our economy not “advanced?” Consider this: 60% of our work force is engaged farm or agricultural work whereas in “advanced” countries such as Japan, Australia, S. Korea, Germany, or the US only 2-3% are in farming. One worker in those countries produces enough to feed 30 to 50 of his compatriots and has surplus to export. Compare: In our country, the work and resources of one farmer feeds only two or three persons. The reason for the low productivity of our farming economy, briefly, is the involvement of GOI in financing, planning, execution and distribution of farming and distribution of the products. It is an oft-proven philosophy in our own country: Government industries show poor efficiency . To illustrate, IT and communication industries are in private hands (since 1994) and they have become world leaders. Railways and farming which are government controlled, are far behind. Under the new laws there are numerous safeguards at every stage for those who want to continue in farming. But there are also freedoms for farmers to branch out, innovate, or get out. Today, seventeen States don’t have or have only severely restrict versions of the “mandi system.” States with no or limited “mandi system” (e.g. Bihar) show consistently higher farm economy growth (%) rate than states using the full “mandi system” (e.g. Punjab). Finally, keeping the outdated, low productivity system exposes our country to external interference and aggression. India cannot become rich or advanced country - let alone a “superpower,” under the current inefficient system of agriculture.
