I was drilling wheat with an old drill while driving a old tractor with worn ball joins. It required constant attention, looking back over right shoulder, looking ahead to stay straight, looking over left shoulder to see seeds dropping. A barely visible dot appeared in the sky. I had to wait until I went through the routine to see what the dot was. It was a jet fight plane using me for a practice strafing run. It pull up and roared close overhead. Was I ever glad to see that blue star, since I was close to the border of an Arab nation.

That's a lot of green equipment there, nice! What about the rig you guys use to inject manure into the ground.....I often wonder how you can attach a hose to it and run up and down the field without destroying the hose?
@dodgebrothersfarmandranch92064 жыл бұрын
Thanks! The hose is actually ridiculously heavy and strong. It has a swivel where it attaches to the applicator so when you turn around the hose is usually rolling a bit instead of just dragging. You also lay the hose out in an S shaped pattern so you are never dragging the whole hose around. I should try to do a video next year showing how they lay out the hose pattern in the field so they can turn around without ever running over the hose...
@anthonylawlor91304 жыл бұрын
You guys have a nice fleet. What the value of this equipment. How many acres do you work.
@dodgebrothersfarmandranch92064 жыл бұрын
Thanks! We run over about 1,750 acres. As for the value of the equipment, that’s an interesting question. It’s a lot, I know, but I’ve never totaled it all up. I know the red tractor would probably be worth about $200,000 and the combine would be in the $250,000 ballpark. You should check out tractorhouse.com and look through the different models for sale. It’s a good way to pass some time!

I heard you say front wheel assist everytime you pointed out that it has the front pulling as well, is there difference between four wheel drive and front assist or is there a different drive train that makes one front assist but not true for wheel drive or is that just what you call it, hope you dont think this is taking a jabe, really wanting to know if there is a difference, we have cars that are all wheel drive but there not true 4 wheel drives so I know there are some differences in thise drive trains, thanks appreciate the video
@dodgebrothersfarmandranch92064 жыл бұрын
Good question! In tractor lingo, a four wheel drive is an articulated 8 wheeler such as a John Deere 9330 (like the one seen in my latest video). A four wheel drive tractor has the same size front and rear wheels. Front wheel assist is basically the option to engage the front wheels if needed. That would mostly be any tractor with smaller front wheels than rear wheels and tread lugs on the fronts. If there is no front wheel assist the front tires are usually ribbed like wagon wheels.

after 40 years farming we found it takes what you can afford not what you need
@dodgebrothersfarmandranch92063 жыл бұрын
There is a lot of truth to that. We could farm all this ground with much older equipment. We couldn’t get it done with much smaller equipment because we would miss out on the windows of weather for planting and harvest. But, you are absolutely right. Buy what you can afford, and hire some things done if you can’t afford the equipment.

Thanks! It takes a long time to get to the point of having this kind of a fleet of equipment bought and paid for. The fellow that I work for is in his 70’s and has made a lot of good business decisions in his lifetime. If I owned the row crop farm I guarantee my equipment would look a lot more like the machinery that my brother and I put up hay with. Lots of the big shiny equipment you see on farms today is not paid for yet.

That little tractor is a 2016. We really like it. The foot pedal hydro controls are really nice. It has electronic cruise control and you can adjust how reactive the hydro is. I’d recommend one for around the yard.

I am curious?How do you keep up in harvest with just one semi?
@dodgebrothersfarmandranch92065 жыл бұрын
Good question! We are lucky to have every field within a six mile radius of the drying and storage. Half of the acres are inside of a three mile drive. Also, the drive over grain pit holds half a semi load so it only takes around 12 minutes to dump the truck. It usually times up pretty good with the combine and cart. That is one reason we will probably always run an 8 row corn head.

@kruzmisile4 жыл бұрын
OK .....Time for the Rookie question......What a small Tile problems???
@dodgebrothersfarmandranch92064 жыл бұрын
Every spring we have a handful of drainage tile pipes get clogged. We have to dig them up and get down in the hole with a spade and cut out a small section of pipe and replace it. The water will be drained in a day or two and you can fill the hole back in.
@bobbyharvill42254 жыл бұрын
I would have to have a small diesel motor on a trailer,to keep those hours off my tractor. I know it would be a pain,but it drives me crazy to put those hours on such an expensive machine.

Anybody else bothered by the "intellectual property" issue raised by John Deere? They claim it voids the warranty to work on your own equipment. They maintained that it is their design so it is their property, the knowledge on how to repair a J.D. product. I wonder what the validity is of a bill of sale.

Yeah I’d like to see companies making it easier to service your own equipment. That would be a big selling point for me.
