Okay folks who are loyal viewers, I know there are a lot of folks who can’t PayPal or subscribe to help with fiancés for the refuge. You can however, like and place a comment under every video and if you can, share. They get paid from You Tube for sharing content, but it’s based on your participation. So how bout it folks… let’s get moving and place comments on every video. If you watch all the ads, it also adds to their revenue! If you’re busy, run all the old videos in background ❤and let the videos and add play all day making sure you’ve hit like and add a comment on each. It helps! There was a homesteading gal who was in a very bad accident. A huge number of viewers did just that and it helped with her expenses. We can do this folks! These animals need our help. In many cases, this is their last chance to live. And… it’s not cheap!

So hard to understand why you have been turned down? what possible grounds could they have when you are all working so hard with great dedication and love for these gorgeous horses, something that is so worthwhile and brings joy to so many? For over 40 years the 'establishment' has failed the farm and I, personally have no will to fight the system any more. Our father lost thousands and thousands over the years trying to comply with all the beaurocracy and red tape and the circular economy that now exists would have us doing the same over and over again. What we do here with the horses is different from anywhere else I know of so now we have to come up with a more radical solution for the farm as a whole.

Great sympathy for you I live in very rural Scottish borders and find that unless it affects London or the South nothing matters from important grant applications to even the weather forecast . we are considered as a mere playground for wealth southerners.

Re grants 1. Is there an appeal process? 2. Ask for an explanation of why your grants were turned down. As you are in a UNESCO site and grade 2 listed, and open to public, English Heritage? Do you remember when idiotic Jacob Rees Mogg got £3 mill for his estate?Especially the bull pen, that sounded v special. 3. Talk to your local MP. Yrs ago, I got my MP on board with a problem I had. Due to his intervention, I got the matter cleared up and the procedure changed. 4. Jeremy Clarkson. His farm series and The Times column. Radio, TV, social media. Shout about it and name names. 5. Did you apply towards the end of the grant yr when most of the £ had been allocated? Would applying at the beginning of the next grant yr help? Do you know or can find out who got grants? Must be a public record and you can look at them to find out who is getting £. If any "impropriety" you can find out and bang your drum if needs be, or have a "quiet word". Welcome back Hols from your hollybobs! 😁 The girls and boys look wonderful in the sun and Nero with his mates looked so happy 😊 ❤

Thank you for your really thoughtful points - I'm sat here writing down a brief history of the farm in order to do the video Tracey has tasked me with 😬😅! 1. There is an appeal process however as these 3 applications were just the initial Expressions of Interest, the work required, should we have been invited to make a full application, would be considerable with no real prospect of success given their initial rejection. 2. I'll be talking about their reasons in the video. As you quite rightly mention, we are a Grade II listed farm in a UNESCO world heritage site! I will go and look up the Jacob Rees Mogg story - especially as I've been told by Natural England that we have one of the last remaining original bull pens in Cumbria!! 😂 3. I first got in touch with our local MP Tim Farron when I became frustrated that Westmorland & Furness Council were dragging their heels with implementing their strategy for managing the Rural England Prosperity Fund (REPF) Grant when other councils across the UK had theirs in place. The funding was announced in September 2022 and should have been released early last year, with projects being required to be completed by 31 December 2024 and grants claimed by March 2025 (such a short window of opportunity. Cumbria's Local Enterprise Partnership, Cumbria Chamber of Commerce and Cumbria Action for Sustainability were tasked with managing the funds and the grant wasn't opened until 11th December 2023!!!!! (apologies for my excessive use of exclamation marks but its the only way to share my frustration). To be fair, Tim Farron was very quick to reply to my email and he wrote to both Cumbria Council and the government with my complaint. 4. We have long been fans of Jeremy Clarkson's Farm series and wholeheartedly agree with his public exposure of the shocking reality of trying to run a farm and the challenges landowners and farm tenants face. I usually lack the confidence to 'put myself out there' and talk about personal challenges, however this has been a turning point for me this week and I will be making some noise 😜 5. My email to the Cumbria Chamber of Commerce was sent within an hour of the grant being released 😅 I'd specifically gone through the whole costly and time consuming process of applying for planning permission for rebuilding the Shippon as soon as I'd read about the REPF and its aim to help rural businesses, in particular farms, in September 2022.

I'm not from the UK, so I don't know your governmental or foundation granting structure. In the US, often times ony a very small percentage of grants submitted are funded. It's tedious, frustrating, and a great deal of work only to have the disappointment of not being funded, but it is the nature of the beast. It's not helpful that there is such a small percentage of success in funding worthy projects but a reality one comes to realize in the grant world. I follow Jacob's Ridge, a sanctuary in Mercia. They have had two years of bureaucracy / red tape with the Spanish authorities. They wanted to move the sanctuary to larger piece of land. Julian and Rachel, the owners, have jumped through hoops. It is coming to fruition now but they still haven't actually moved. So, I do understand your rant. You rant away my lovely. Beureaucrats workdwide it seems. Back to the drawing board. Answer the specific reasons for failure of each grant and back to it. I don't know if each of the grants goes hand in hand but if not, go with the one that is the biggest priority I suppose but you know that of course. 👋 Hello Holly, welcome back. Funnily enough, when I flew back from West Berlin (‘85) I had a stop over, in the former Yugoslavia … first landed at Zagreb and then onto Belgrade for the night … before flying back to Canada. I remember it being very gray … of course, I stood out like a tourist wearing a pastel blue coat! One can always tell who the tourists are. 😂 Horses look gorgeous! Nero really has settled into the Sanctuary … he seems to have made friends with everybody … what a social butterfly! I hear he has a thing for one of the owners! 😊 So cute how he runs to you all the time, Tracey … just like when he hid behind you that day in the paddock. 😁 So let’s get down to the nitty gritty of it … why was Greenbank turned down for the grants? Surely they must be required to give a reason why not? Sounds more political, rather than not qualifying for a grant! Any animosity towards your ancestors, with another family in the village … or wherever it is this council is located? Or are there limited funds and they want to ensure their friends get the grants instead?Or perhaps the assumption is you’re raking in all the dough because you have a KZbin channel? All of which is a bunch of bollocks. Or could the reason be they just don’t like horses, so they’ll not enable the farm in any way … in hopes you’ll wind down the sanctuary and/ or sell? All seems highly suspect. So who did get the approval for the grants? Well I’m sorry the applications were unsuccessful … I kind of felt Tamara had high hopes that at least one of them would have been accepted! Anyhow, sorry to leave on such a sour note! The time, effort and emotions involved in grant applications is exhausting. Is it possible to ask what their marking of your grant was. Where it failed and then reapply this coming year? years ago when I wrote grants I always regarded them as "obedience tasks". It seems the most important thing was to follow "rules" that seemed to matter more than the actual value of what the grant was funding. So sorry for your disappointment. It could be that there are far too many Grant applications. I once attended a workshop on how to get a Grant for scientific research. It was explained that only 10% of the applications managed to get the grant because the amount of money to distribute was far less than the amount of applications. So even if you do everything right and being a worthy cause, the chance is low.

Tim Farron has been called upon a number of times over the last 20 years. He’s proactive but sadly even recommendations he’s made in the past to the local authorities have not resulted in help 😢. Personally I’m beyond the point of trying to rely on the establishment. We must find other ways to help this little piece of history we’ve given our life to protect. 🙏

Unfortunately, local government and the big state don't care about supporting the little farms or cultivating independence anymore. They want control. It's very bad here in the States! Is your friend a professional grant writer? Or are any of your supporters in the business of writing grants? You need someone who can work the system for you.

Oh grrrrr! on your behalf. I'm so sorry. Would re-submitting help? Would asking for particulars around the rejection help you if you do re-submit? Do you have any way of knowing who the decision makers are and how they interact with your elected officials, who sometimes are great cage rattlers when dealing with sluggish bureacrats. Once you've determined who the decision making person is, maybe stick Holly on that person? (Just kidding.) I'm sure you've thought of all this, but please don't give up. You will prevail. Eventually. Meanwhile, I send up prayers for you and hugs to you. Be well and keep on keeping on. Your mission is worth the struggle.

No doubt hugely disappointing. IMO, politics and not public service has largely taken over government. I’d bet some number of council people don’t understand the value of what you do and are aspiring to do. Educating (lobbying) is a full-time job in itself. I hope there are privately-funded philanthropic entities or individuals you may be able to tap into.

I totally understand how very dissapointing it is to be let down by those people sitting in their warm comfortable offices who have no idea of ehat goes on in the real world. In my humble opinion you should fight on by appealing the decision . You guys are so passionate about the good of the farm, you should be heard. Consider going to the media and bring your applications known and what happened. The horses need you and the farm. I'm realy quite upset at whats happened. Get a new advisor!
