My thoughts and prayers to Emma. I’ll have more time to catch up on podcasts once we’re planting, but as a vet, I see more suicides than most people. Luckily I haven’t seen it as much in the farming community around me. But I vaguely recall a couple of guys in the 80’s who died in suspect farm accidents that some thought might have been imtentional. It is important to say to anyone who finds themselves in that place, reach out. You are helping the person you are reaching out to, not just you. All the veterans I’ve spent time with helped me more than I helped them. One gets more than they give by being part of the solutions, instead of being part of the problem. You can’t feel what these people are feeling. They can’t think about those they leave behind, they can’t only contemplate making it stop for themselves. But I can share a little about me, as they seem receptive, or I can just sit with them, with an occasional reassuring hand on their shoulder, and get through it with them.

Thanks for the kind words. Farmers are 3.5 times more likely to commit suicide and it needs addressed.
