My father built our house in lime mortar 70 years ago. Both the plaster and the floor are still good though the outside plaster has peeled of at places. I don't find any masons doing any work on lime mortar. So the repairs have not been done though the house needs it.

Thank you for the series. Do the lime floors have insulation properties ? as cement, stone & tiled floors always stay cold and behave as heat sinks.
@farmaanandaa10 ай бұрын
Lime floors are very cool in summer. In winter they may be a bit warmer than stone or tiles, but we are not sure. Our floors are 16 deg C in peak of winter without the room being heated.
@soiledspot10 ай бұрын
Thank you for the prompt reply. Summers would be nice then. However, the issue of cold floors is more of a concern in the winter months. May I ask what was the outside floor temp. with respect to the 16degC inside floor? And what is the peak winter temp. around you?

What an amazing job. I wish I could visit India sometime. One question I would like to ask is about hardness of the floor. It looks like 5mm sharp stones are enough to cause damage to the floor. Will a polished lime floor hold up to slippers and stones and dust?
@farmaanandaa9 ай бұрын
Thank you. Slippers and dust of course. But initial years the floor is still setting, so hard stones or sharp objects can damage it.

Hi. Beautiful work. I am considering lime floor in a bathroom renovation. Are the floors very slippery when wet?
@farmaanandaa3 ай бұрын
Yes they are. Wouldn't recommend it in wet spaces. We put some stone in the shower area. Rest of the dry bathroom has a lime floor.

Hi Manisha, I am a big fan of yours. I have seen almost all your videos. I am planning to construct a house of course eco friendly to my budget. I am taking help from mlime after seeing your lime series. I want to know whether the yellow / blue floors are having patchy look like this grey. Somehow kids are not allowing for this look. if possible could you post photos or videos of coloured floors current look. I would love to have a call with you if possible. Just to get the confidence to go forward the concepts you follow.

I have hydronic floor heating (pipes with heated water flowing all through the house right under the floor) and I came to the comments to ask this too. It seems like you would want to start the layering of the lime base and top coats right on top of the plywood sub-floor. Whether or not this is a good application depends on how conductive the new polished floors would be. You want the heat to penetrate the same way it does with tile, rather than have the floor act as an insulator. That’s the part I’m still not clear on either.
@durbinito6 ай бұрын
ok. For lime textured walls there was one layer and for lime polished there are actually four layers? Right? My second question is, when you finished a part of the floor and start building the next part what do you put in between? Or new lime part easily makes a bond with old part?
@farmaanandaa6 ай бұрын
The floors are partitioned with aluminium strips to allow for expansion contraction. These joints are what separates one part from the other
@farmaanandaa6 ай бұрын
And yes polished lime are four layers within the 4 mm thickness
