FARMALL 856 GETS A HORSEPOWER UPGRADE!!

Just a quick highlight on a new project tractor that I have brought into the garage. Farmall 856 with a dead DT407. Going in its place is a DT436 out of an International 1486. Putting in a heavier clutch during the swap and plan on removing the cab as soon as I can find a set of fenders. Thanks for watching and check out my other vids! I would set the pump at 1466 specs. Around 140-145 pto hp.

D is a 71, I would not worry about the rear end, many people added a turbo and took them to 300-400 hp for pulling.

Tractor Supply Co. actually sold those cabs at one time.

Cabs were add ons, Hinniker,Western made the big majority of cabs.

My dad bought an 856 early 68 I was 7 years old. The dealer dropped it off and I was on it in about a minute. When can I drive Daddy when? He pointed at the clutch pedal and said "when you can push that down" a little over a year later (still 8 years old) I could and I did 10 12 hour a day! No joke He work 40 hours in a machine shop raised 100 head of feeder pigs and cash rented 700 acres. Before he left for work he would set me up. I remember it like yesterday he would say " I'll be back after work, don't run it out of fuel, run it as fast as it can go and only slow down in it starts to get hot. Also TRY not to get stuck! Pulling 5 16s DEEP! I truely think all that responability and pressure made me a better person. He has been gone for years I wish I could sit and talk with him about thoughts days now... Jeff Crawford you are absolutely correct. Responsibilities at a young age make great people. I cut my teeth on an old IH 656 and Deere 4230 at a young age. My father ran a Farmall 560 when he was little just like you. He was so small on it that you couldn't see him over the fenders. People would stop by my grandfather's house and run in to tell him that a tractor had gotten away in the field but it was just dad out running it and they couldn't see him. More folks need to be on tractors when they are little. Those will always be unforgettable memories.

Thats a fine story Jeffrey. The kids nowa days should a had a hell of a lot more of that. I raised mine as near to that as I could. They turned out fine

The cab is an aftermarket dealer added. Not IH Year A Round made cabs for everyone back in the day. They were not a ROPs cab though so no protection in a roll over

That would make sense. The owners son purchased a Year Round a long time ago just to get the doors and they would not work

Too bad you aren't going to rebuild the D407. We have used an 856 with a turbo added on for years. It's a complete bad ass. Far superior to the DT436.

It is not out of the question yet until I evaluate the bottom end for myself. May build it if it is not too bad. Time will tell

I think the rear end will be fine as long as you don't put duals on it
