Farmall Cub '53 - Stopped Running - Badly Warped Carb - My Solution.

The 1953 Farmall Cub would not stay running after always being completely reliable. It would run for a couple seconds and shut off. I took the carburetor apart and cleaned all the jets and passage ways with a cleaning solvent and really found no real problem. But as I was putting the two halves back together, I found a huge problem, the top plain of the carb was no where close to flat level. I posted about this on a Facebook group and there were some who said I should take a flat file and file out the warp by taking a few thousandths of material off both surfaces. When I tried to explain that it too badly warped for filing, no one really seem to believe me. So I decided to make this video and hopefully my fix can be used by others in similar situations. Just Subscribed. We fixed the carb problem on our Super A Farmall. We installed a brand new $41 china Carb on it. So far its been great. We have a video of the carb install on our channel. That china carb was so good. We bought two more and intend to install them on our BF Avery and Vac Case.

I had a '50 Cub that I took the top of the carb off, and put it in a vise and straightened it by applying a wee bit off force to the part that wasn't in the vise. It wasn't perfect but it fixed the problem. Doing that, you have to be careful not to crack or break it. Of course the ultimate fix would be a new carb, preferably an IH one.

I tried putting this one in a vise, but it was warped at least 3 different ways. I could not put enough force on it before I felt like it might crack or break. I have a new carb, but is in reserve until I have no other choice.

Does your carb have a Ventura? Was it installed right? It could have been torqued with Ventura not right and did the damage? Put as many gaskets as it takes together the job done. Great job.

Steve md makes a gasket part out of brass 3/16 thick then file it down
