Reviving Knowledge. Sharing Country.
In our latest instalment of our storytelling series 'Farm Yarns' we visited Yuin Country and the Indigenous Food Enterprise set up by author turned farmer Bruce Pascoe, Black Duck Foods. Bruce's 2014 book Dark Emu shed light on Australia's indigenous agricultural practices which had previously been looked over by colonisers. The award-winning novel showed a level of sophistication and organisation used by First Nation's people that went beyond the previous 'hunter gatherer' notion.
Now, Bruce and his team have a vision to re-develop traditional food growing and country management processes for the economic benefit of Aboriginal peoples and Country. This is where their path intersects with Jim Osborne, the owner of a piece of land called Yambulla which he is sharing with the Yuin people to restore it's original ecology and support Bruce and his team's native grass growing projects.
We had the honour of sharing a Yarn and some time on Country with Bruce.
