Hey Guys! Recently found the channel. I really enjoy it. I’m sure you’ve already talked about it on one of you videos but what is the black neck device you guys are all wearing?
@elovvor1 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. It is a Bluetooth device that connects to our phones. We can continue to operate equipment while we’re on the phone. I also listen to a lot of podcasts while I work. Another benefit is they serve as a pretty decent earplug when things get loud around the farm.
@addisonranch Жыл бұрын
@@elovvor1 that’s what I was wondering. Part of me was hoping it was a cooling device. We’re not as hot as you guys but it’s pretty miserable in the summer. Keep up the good work.

i would love to have a john deere 6300 one of my favorite tractors other than the 4430, the people who do my hay have a 6300 and it seems like a really good tractor

That has been a really good one. Eric's dad Steve bought that one several years ago. It has held up well.

Just found your video ’s and really like them, I’ve got a farm in southern Ohio, we’ve got some black cows and cut 4 x 5 bales and wrap them with an older Anderson wrapper, question I have is on this video noticed you didn’t put end caps on your bales, I was told this was necessary with wet bales. How are those bales when you feed them? Will they eat them? Even with the caps I’m at about 50/50 of those bales being any good.
@FarmerHunt11 ай бұрын
We have done it both ways. The end caps are a pain and we do a lot of short rows of haylage so it would take a lot of end caps. Sometimes we will take some dry bales from the barn and end a row with them or start a row so it's not a haylage bale at the end. If we don't do that, typically the first and maybe second bale are somewhat moldy when we cut into it. All the other bales are great though. Are you seeing much mold throughout your row?
@birddog674411 ай бұрын
The end caps are a royal PIA, I have to stop everything, climb out of the skid steer to put them on, seems no matter how particular I am putting them on and taping them off the end bales are bad and the cows won’t eat them about half my bales are alfalfa and I hate it when I end up loosing 2 bales in each row. The issue is the air, it end up at those end bales. This year I’m planning to start with a dry bale, then a capped bale & end the row the same way, maybe that’ll work, IDK. I can appreciate what you guys go through and enjoy the videos!

That sounds like a good plan. It’s frustrating having those end bales that are pretty much no good. We are usually wrapping our haylage with a bobcat that has a door so unless there are two people around it’s hard to get those covers on.

What do y’all use to spray Johnson grass with ?
@elovvor1 Жыл бұрын
Outrider. It is a contact killer and the Johnson grass needs to be approximately 6” tall when you spray it. It can kill rye grass so we wait until after our second cutting to spray it. Usually middle to end of June.

Thanks I will have to check the CO-OP and see if I can get some. Do you have good success with it? Does it take several years to get it killed out ?

Ben & Eric, will you fertilize with litter on the hay fields for a 3rd cut and how many bales have you wrapped this year? Loved seeing your Pops helping out.
@elovvor1 Жыл бұрын
Yes we will fertilize as long as we get some rain. It has gotten extremely dry here fast. I think we have wrapped between 700 and 800 so far.

@@elovvor1 Dry here in Opelika too. Supposed to get some rain this week 6/12 +. Hope y'all get some rain and can make that third cut and then get really blessed with a 4th.
