Glad I posted on the forums and get to see how many people I’ve helped with this issue!

Thanks for making this video. I’m glad I watched it at the last minute before I attempted. I was gonna replace the entire block until I saw this. Got it done. Adding some dry lube to the feelers helped them slide out. I bought a new unit from the dealer, not a used 2011 like this video. So far so good…

Sir, I cannot thank you enough for posting this video. I found this thru your post on the Cummins forum. The visual you provided along with all the instructions on the forum helped me to get mine fixed today. That chime has been torturing us for months! I did repair my original motor by adjusting the slides on the brushes. Your video was a tremendous help. Thank you. God bless.

Thanks for the video! I knew about the brush issue but was hesitant to repair it due to bleeding brakes and reprogramming. It's great to know the motor can be pulled out and reinstalled.

Good video. I’ve had this happen on my 18 2 times now. Both times very intermittent and went away just as fast as it came. No rhyme or reason either. I believe that it’s the stuck brushes too. I’ll be ordering one soon and will get it replaced. Thanks!!

Thank you for another interesting and enjoyable video. I agree totally about Amazon and the size of certain other monopolies. At the start of the last century the robber barons were brought to heel, time to do it again and it can be done.

I have a 2017 Ram 2500 diesel and have had the same problem for two years. I was finally able to find the replacement Hydraulic Control Unit online for a reasonable cost. The defective unit part number ends in AA. The replacement ends in AB. That is the one you need to use. There are some good videos on KZbin that show how to replace it which I did. I reused the old ABS module. You will need to do a manual brake bleed after and then an ABS brake bleed with a scan tool after and then clear the trouble code. The dinging and ABS service light are gone. If what you did doesn’t end up working I recommend just changing the hydraulic control unit with the new one. It worked for me and that’s seems to be what the problem is. It’s the bad motor on the HCU.
@FarmerMD3 ай бұрын
Just replacing the small motor on the HCU is the easier and cheaper fix IMO. No brake bleeding. So far, it has fixed the problem.

I should have made a video but I repaired mine with only a screwdriver. I took the motor off and then took the top part of it off to expose the brushes and springs. I took a screwdriver and gently widened the gap on the metal brackets that hold the springs and brushes in place. This allows the the brushes to move back and forth freely. I was careful not to make the gap too wide. I did this on my truck about a month ago and it is working great, but of course Ram finally is making this recall issue. I think I will stick with my fix even if they come out with a solution. Thanks for your video it was really helpful.

It’s a recall now? Good news, my 18 has been flashing lights for last couple weeks and the truck only has 20k on it.

@ I finally got to it this weekend. I pulled the electric motor as he showed in the video, I just shaved down the brushes for more clearance and put the original back in. So far so good.

Did this repair on mine. Month in and everything is good to go. I bought the hcu new and just robbed the motor off of it. Grease on the feelers help hold them in place to the hcu.

Got an email from the NHTSA (because I had filed a couple of complaints with them) and they have finally forced a recall for this problem because it disengages the traction control. Letters are supposed to be coming from Stelantis in mid January and a new manufacturer has been found to supposedly get caught up with the backordered parts.

8:49 My same question: is it still working? Anyone else that has done this same fix using a solenoid off 2008-2011 HCU AND it has eliminated the problem? Does the antilock brakes, cruise control, and traction control NOW WORK? My 2018 , 3500 has been doing this for almost two years and every dealer I’ve talked to wants to do a diagnostic for about $200 even though I’ve already had this done at Ram dealer. Then they will order the part (ABS MODULE) , even though they told me that NONE are available. Supposedly FCA is developing a new replacement?
