Feederhouse Removal 9500 Combine - Broken Shaft!

The top shaft on the feeder house broke in the middle of the field while cutting soybeans so we remove the feederhouse completely from the machine to repair. Southern Maryland, USA

That repair can be done without taking the feeder house off. Not really easier, but a bit faster with a lot less heavy lifting. The shaft can get wiggled down through the rock trap area. The end that is broken goes down first, then pull the drive end out of the big casting and down. But when I was doing it, usually took the feeder house off like you did. The dealership had a stand to put the feeder house on to roll it away. Did a few in the field. Ugggg. Some day I should get you my phone number for helpful hints. But, I’m impressed. You do really well with your repairs.

We left feederhouse hooked to header when took it off. Just blocked up a little and good to go. Good luck with getting it all fixed up!!

Our 9600 combine the concave got out of the holders on one side and it was crooked causing one side to fall open and the other to close we had take the throat off and rebuild everything in the middle of harvest I feel for ya buddy hope everything goes better for ya thanks for sharing

park brake assy is a real but kicker for me.. also.. anti seize is your friend. use it everywhere. especially those big bolts.

When I’ve had to remove the feeder house on my 7700 combine I’ve left the header connected to the feeder house and let it hold hold it steady with the header rested on the ground, by doing that the combine end of the feeder house actually was held up and in position to reconnect to the combine when ready!

I bet that shaft would be expensive as hell, as if it is something really really special. Oh no, just a hex with 2 ends machined to fit bearings. You can source a hex from a steel yard and a machine shop can do it for 100-150 usd for labor. I live in Europe and machine shops (some of them work part-time) will get this done with priority, since they know farmers are usually in a hurry. Anyway, hopefully you get this repaired quickly and get back to harvesting. Your videos are really cool.

I seen pictures of a feeder house removal where they welded tabs on the end and hooked it to the three point quick hitch on a tractor instead of using chains and a loader

Old machines break down,new as well. We had an 2256 JD and some problems with the fuel injection. An old BOSCH dealer could help us.

the hydralics piston looks bent making the system use extra force making the spinner lose power and that leak happening on the hose. The system had applied torx making the other componets mis align and everyone stared at it but never said it was look a bent. When opening the trunk on the car they are all stright when bent it will be very hard. The bolt broke with the hammer drill.

Better have Your wallet filled up when You call Deere for parts. These parts are out of sight. I think they do have a licence to steal. Better get some of those parts through Shoup.
