FARMER PHIL

Күн бұрын

In today’s video we sit down with father Phil and uncle to talk about mowing machines from the past. Ones my grandfather had up to the 1st John Deere mower we bought in 1998. Uncle also tells us a story of the farm history going back 200 years which played a role in how we came to be farming here.
Hope you enjoy, any questions hit me down in the comments below, thanks for watching. Please like and subscribe for more. Videos every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday.

I loved the story about the two lads that were mowing with the scythe then disappeared never to be heard from again. Have you any old photos of the working horses you had on the farm back in the day, would love to see them if you have. Always sad when these chat videos end, could listen for hours.

I really enjoy this style of video. Find these chats very interesting and would love if you did an episode on your uncle and father's views on the changes in Irish agriculture from when they started out to now. 1. What the main differences in the last 50 years are. 2. What they think is good and what is bad about 3. What do they see the next 30-50 years looking like. You'll be able to look back on these videos in decades to come. Excellent stuff!

best Video in awhile , listening to Father Phil and Uncle reminds me of my Father and Uncle, Both started with Horses ploughing and mowing in the 40's , upgraded to Grey Fergies and upgraded again , my Father to a David Brown 880 and my Uncle to MF 135 in the early 60's , Finger Bar mowers were the go of the Day , Also they had a unusual 3 furrow plough , 2 furrows ploughed to the right and the other Furrow ploughed to the left , locally known as a Ridge Plough

Great video guys, wonderful story telling. You are documenting social history. 'If you hadn't a good Edge, you weren't going anywhere'. There's a certain rock band that would agree. I remember as a kid sharpening sections on a Ransomes finger bar mower. My father had a Featherstone mid-mounted mower on a David Brown 25D in the late 50s and early 60s.

I started mowing in 1994 with a 8 foot John Deere mower I can honestly say it was the first proper reliable mower I used. It had a swarter fitted to make a nice sward for a taarup ten X laying on top rather than side by side

Nice one Phil. Father Phil and Uncle Phil must know every kind of hardship that machinery can provide. Rumour has it them two boys with the sythes headed to the USA and changed their names to Frank and Jessy. You need to rein in you women, you stated for the record that you were out working at 6am and they contradicted you. It would be more in ther line to be serving ye lads refreshments at the table and going quietly about their business 😂
