It's gone far beyond only farmers. Today lorry drivers are protesting in Berlin because the 80% increase in road toll for HGVs. Which would mean significantly higher prices for litereally everything in supermarkets, petrol stations etc. Tradespeople and doctors have also been on strike and more and more regular citizens join them. Germany doesn't have an income problem (tax revenue was about a thousand billion, a trillion, last year), the problem is that this and previous governments have been burning money everywhere in the world but not in Germany. The protests will not stop until this government steps down. 8:10 Just FYI: Some of the firefighters who cheered on the farmers are now facing legal consequences. In big cities firefighters are public servants and it's against the political narrative to support protests, so they face getting sacked. This is the kind of banana republic Germany has become over the past few years. And of course state TV is in full propaganda mode, labelling mass protests "right-wing" because allegedly a few right-wing extremists took part as well. Framing, defragmentation and decontextualization are in overdrive mode in state media right now.

These appeared to be students on university campuses who were so obsessed with climate considerations that they thought giving up on farming was not only sensible but essential to save them. When the interviewer asked where their food would come from without farming, they just appeared to get indignant that the person was putting another small issue in the way of net zero. The other thing that has amazed me is politicians following some of the ideas of these young people like Greta. It's jaw-dropping to consider that she is pushing legislation that is being adopted, yet she is a child. What the heck is going on here. We she be following the ideas of older people with ingeneering backgrounds, science back grounds, not children who are running about like headless chickens telling us the sky is falling.

The reality was that the cars in the traffic jam that happened because of the climate protest did not let an emergency vehicle pass. As happens many times in all sorts of traffic jams, without anyone ever mentioning it. I hope that our farmers find their way to direct local marketing without relying on the unhelpful supermarket system or the kinds of subsidies that are damaging to the climate and other markets. Many are on their way to become forward thinkers, feeding the people they belong to and caring for the land, the waters and climate they depend on. Support for the extremist right AfD has actually not risen in the wake of the farmer's protests. Quite the opposite: the extremists are trying to infiltrate and use the protests for their gain, and many farmer's associations are distancing themselves from them. The tax was lower on Diesel because the tax was to pay for roads. Farmers use most of their diesel off the road and that is why the taxes are lower. Raising taxes is fraudulent.

I salute the French. German as well as other farmers, I understand their problems. I am from Slovakia. Farmers in the former Czechoslovakia did not have and did not know such problems. There was socialism and the goals were food self-sufficiency and work for people in the countryside. With the fall of socialism, the conveniences of farmers disappeared. With the entry of Slovakia into the European Union, production fell by 20-40% according to commodities. Livestock production was terminated in many enterprises. Who will stop the dictates of officials from Brussels? Who is manipulating millions of people in Europe and the whole world?

Thank you for giving the farmer movement in Germany a voice abroad. I just want to add a very important point why those farmers get such strong support from all the other citizens. The whole economy in Germany (despite the military industrial sector) spiraled down within the last 2 years. Never in the history of postwar Germany so many businesses went bankrupt. However the only answer from the government is just their denial of reality and illustrating that with an incompetence that makes your neighbors toddler seem smart. The German government lost touch with reality in an almost comical way. They fight bureaucracy with more bureaucracy. They enforce conformity in public media. They don't even try hard anymore to disguise their favoritism and corruption. And they base their efforts to deal with opposition just on name calling like "Nazi", "Extreme Right" and "Fascists" to spare themselves from discussing solutions. Also they were obliged to reduce 4% of their land for „green“ purposes. Which even no country inside Europe did. So competitiveness was diminished. So the last „brilliant“ ideas from the government are only the tip of an iceberg. And not only farmers are on the streets. Truckers and small business as well. 80% of people are against the government in the meantime. And for them all critics of their politics are of course „far right“. They even try to prohibit the only relevant opposition party which is at 25% in the poles and in some regions up to 37%. Greetings from Germany

What this report completely misses, is the reason, not only the farmers, but 80% of the German population is against the current government. Over the preceding years, they have seen billions of their tax money being spent on other countries and the deeply unpopular Ukraine war. Under the German constitution, it is illegal for any government to run the budget into a deficit, which the current government did (see previous statement). So now the government is scrambling to plug the hole in the budget, and their first target was ordinary self employed people who keep the country fed and running. Hence the massive protests through out the country. Further that this report misses, is the support the German protesters are receiving from farmers and truckers from other countries, with them forming protest blockades on the borders to Germany, because they too are seeing the same government attacks on them in their own countries. It is widely acknowledged, as pointed in this report, that these agendas are coming from the EU and globalists. It is a war against ordinary people.

you hit the point. This action was the final drop to let the barrel spill over. We here in Germany are fed up with the present politicians. We are squeezed and squeezed again for more and more money to give and on the other hand Olaf Scholz ordered three new helicopters (just one example of many others). That doesn't fit. The farmers began, the trucker and the craftsman followed and I really hope that all others will follow as well. As far as I know tmrw will be the next protest by truckers and coming Sunday again the farmers. What really makes me happy is the fact, that you see a lot of people from other countries coming to Germany, joining the protest. Many many thanks for that! Let us hope and pray for better times.

@@bluna8785 I'm watching the situation closely. I speak German, so I can go direct to the sources, rather than rely upon international media. It is a joy to see so many different people, of different professions coming together, and including those over the border. Sadly this war on the people by their own governments is throughout the Western World. I'm concerned that the "elites" have something nasty in store to break this rebellion. Another pandemic, more censorship, digital IDs, CBDCs? Will they do as Canada did to the truckers and freeze their bank accounts? Look at the Bauernkrieg, 1524 - 1525. People need to start thinking and planning for alternative systems. Perhaps at these protests, the farmers could be directly selling their produce to the people. Rather than fight the existing system, build a new one, and make the old obsolete.

This all goes back to expensive energy but no one mentions that EU chose to cancel affordable long term Russian gas contracts in favor of expensive short term Russian gas contracts. They did this months before Russia started to limit pipeline gas supplies. EU leaders denied EU citizens and industries affordable energy. EU leaders cared more for proxy wars and US policies than for their own citizens.

Good, unbiased report on what's currentlygoing on over here, it's good to see that proper journalism is still alive somewhere in the Western World. The first reactions to the protests by our politicians and media was quite telling just how delusional most of them are. One thing to add: Rural (conservative) Germans are notoriously hesitant to protest, we just want to live our daily lives and be mostly left alone, so farmers organizing a nationwide(!) protest shows just how desperate they have become of decades of bad decisions by various coalitions in Berlin. This isn't some protest by easily excitable people on the left, these are hardworking people who would have way better things to do at their farms and realistically fear for their future and see their only hope in getting heard and seen by "invading" the filter bubble of "Spaceship Berlin" that has become more and more isolated from reality over the past 10~15 years.
