My son bot the g660 , I built a muffler mod for it and so far after 5 cord of oak the thing has been a beast, I bot the g288 and been cutting for a couple months with it, also built a modded muffler for it and so far so good. For the price, I have to say at this point, I'm impressed. Ran huskys all my life also,

The key in the flywheel is used to index the flywheel and the taper is what holds the flywheel from turning. You must torque the nut to the proper setting. The way you put that nut on is going to let the flywheel shear the key. You must remove any oil from the tapered shaft and tapered hole in the flywheel. Some saw tuners remove the key when they advance the timing.

I recently built a 660 kit. A fun way to spend a few evenings. I polished the exhaust and gave the intake/transfers a clean up. Removed the baffle from the muffler and matched it and the gasket to the exhaust port and opened up the muffler to about 70% of the exhaust port. Seems to run great. I used everything from the kit. I’ll upgrade as needed. I’d like to see you do a full build on one.

Never tried the screw in both jets trick when flooded. Learn something everyday. Thanks! I like watching you tune too. Mine flood sometimes when I forget to turn the switch on, and start pulling - heh heh. I usually just set the bar on a log, and full throttle, and keep pulling about 10 or 15 times - works unless the plug is totally soaked. Also, I'm old, and the big saws are a pain to pull over too many times. Never tried one of those 660 kits. Looks fun though. That 288 looks pretty good too.

Nice! I've seen this a lot from the "Kit saws" AND there is a reason :) Please remember two numbers :) 26ft-lbs for the m8x1's ( Most newer Husqvarna's and a few older Stihl's ) and 34ft-lbs for the m10x1's on some of the older Husqvarna's and A few Stihl's. Amazing what happens when they are torqued randomly. Saw some with the treaded part snapped off and some with flywheels spun like yours. Seems like other than the bar oiler, those g288's seem pretty solid. You seeing the same?

Walt, you still making videos? I really enjoyed some of the boat footage ... I learned a lot from you! You don't come into my feed anymore? I'm a farmer jones kinda builder ... heh heh. And, if it don't run, grab a different saw - heh heh, and deal with it later. Wish I had a lathe.

Morning Walt, The oiler on the first 288 was bad. Both decomps hit the top covers due to a misaligned decomp hole. Other then that these are both as sent, both start and tune well. I'm impressed so far with the quality of these kits, we will see with some use wether I still feel the same way..

Woodruff keys are available at McMaster-Carr for pennies on the dollar as compared to chain saw prices. I picked up 20, or 25 for about 10 bucks (many years ago, so prices probably changed). The chainsaw parts are usually a slightly different thickness, , , I had to thin two thousandths off of the ones I bought, I used a sharpening stone and my finger. Best of luck,

Fyi- the first run 288 kits had bad pumps- Farmertec supposedly upgraded them after finding out I'm told- it was passed around in the saw repair group on Facebook. That's why one oils well and the other not at all

On a hunch I ordered an oem oil pump pinion return spring for my 372 kit cause it never oiled the best and when I compared the two the farmertec one was like half the length and and a thinner gauge. Now it oils a lot better. I'm guessing it was just floating at cutting rpm and not returning to get another charge of oil

The farmertec 372 kits have lots of problems better off with a 395 kit one thing the pistons are too small and rattle on the 395 kits. The farmertec ms660 kits run great just the clutch drums are out of round.

The spot on the piston with the scoring is a common place for signs of cold seize.Maybe the cylinder and piston had a tight fit and getting on the throttle a bit early may have done it.

What would cause a rebuilt saw to score the piston on the intake side??
@tinmanssaws2 жыл бұрын
Often intake scoring is from debris getting past the air filter. On a new saw scoring often is from small burrs in the ports scratching the piston. If they are small, often they will polish out after some use.

@@tinmanssaws drill it and split pin it idea ???
@moonshine21.372 жыл бұрын
Actually the key needs to be soft to be sheared in case of failure like here to not tear up the crank or flywheel. In this case probably previous owner/builder didn't tighten the nut good enough or it can be that the tapers are not locking in properly because the taper is what does all the "holding together" work and the key is there to just give you a simple reference, so you can disassemble and assemble right away without measuring the timing. Or may I be wrong. And also sorry for my eventual bad grammar, greetings from Poland Tinman :D
@timaustin1102 жыл бұрын
@@moonshine21.37 I know it needs to be soft what I'm sayin is it too soft
@moonshine21.372 жыл бұрын
@@timaustin110 I think in this case there is no "too soft" :D You can also assemble the ignition wuthout the key and it will work all day long, I can guarantee you that because I did this many many times in my saws or bikes and if the taper is doing its thing properly everything will be rock solid. In this kind of assembly the key isn't transfering any serious forces. If this issue will be comming back constantly that means you need to lap the crankshaft and flywheel to each other with valve lapping compound and the issue should go right away.
