The Perfect Farm with the perfect cows. Its maybe a far fetched dream but that's the farming dream. Getting Sheds and Pens ready for the sheep as lambing has kicked off Aul Tom is keeping a tight eye on Alan.
As he puts together a make shift gate he touches on the Daft Rules for agriculture and food security has a big impact but will recent times change peoples viewpoint on farmers.
Spring is here but its looking like the machinery and tractor work will all come at once waiting on the ground to dry

Just on the point regarding 'most use of fertiliser' and applying early. I'm not sure when this was filmed, but as long as ground isn't completely waterlogged (in which case you couldn't spread anyway), the fertiliser wont just disappear if you get it on early, it's always worth it to get it on early to silage or grazing ground, NPK will remain in the ground until the growth comes.
@alanclyde8253
@alanclyde8253 4 жыл бұрын
Aye some of the ground wouldn't have carried tractor, drying up rightly now though and most of fert out. What's the opinion on sowing fert right before or right after spreading slurry?
@DrattedOwnz
@DrattedOwnz 4 жыл бұрын
@@alanclyde8253 Ah right very understandable then so. The only fert I would leave a week between is Urea. Everything else I would just get it on as is convenient.

get sheep that theres less work with if theres such a thing lol but there are sheep better than others good brown faced ewes and very good charollais ram/tip lambs born small but finish extremlly well from birth to finish 12/14 weeks with good grass and intensive lamb pellets from they are fit to eat any ewes with handle bars are a no go not unless you put them on a mountain

“Slap an opening” comes from Ulster Scots, slap is a small opening or passage in a hedge I believe. Great videos lads keep it up.👍
@OllieLove4255
@OllieLove4255 7 ай бұрын
I'm farming just outside Ramelton in County Donegal. Ramelton was a plantation town and the local farming community many of whom are of Ulster Scots bloodlines still use the word SLAP to describe the entrance into a field. Most people in the south of Ireland use the word gap and as John mentioned in this video i often wondered did someone hear GAP wrong ,mispronounced it as SLAP and the name stuck. If you think SLAP is Ulster Scots then i'm sticking with it.
