The grapes vines were neat having that much fruit on them, the wild grapes are smaller and have seeds but are usually very sweet. Here in the forests in PA you can occasionally find wild grapes growing up in trees that are 100 ft tall and the vines are so thick you can swing on them!

The kitchen table looks like from the late 1950's. The B&W Cabinet TV might be worth something. The refrigerator is from the 1950's could be refurbished. Both stoves are a pepper delight. The Ford most likely a big block engine. If someone had the time and money it could be a project car. If someone owes the property might seeing about getting a few dollars on what is left.

Beautiful piece of property. To me nothing in that house seems newer than the early 1960s. Wonder if it's been empty that long?
@R32R382 жыл бұрын
Based on the pointed hood the Ford appears to be from the 1970, 1971 or 1972 model years. Based on the ad for Stub's Marine (still in business BTW) the newspaper must be older than 1996 as that's when Alexandria changed its area code from 612 to 320. My guess is that the last occupant left in the late 1980's or early 1990's. Something about the style and layout of the newspaper seems of that time period.

It's a 1968 Ford Custom 500. The Zenith TV was also 1960s. The other TV and everything else was from the 1950s or before. I don't think that place was lived in after the 1960s. You are right about the newspaper though. It's newer, probably 1990s. I think that was planted there by somebody. I don't know why people do that.
@arassnibbor53272 жыл бұрын
I was about to comment the same thing. I noticed the Stub’s ad had a 612 area code so that newspaper is from the early 90’s at the latest.

He doesn't steal property and it wouldn't be appropriate, but that's a good point. It just saddens me how many abandoned houses exist and there's no info about the people who lived there. Moreover, he posted a video somewhat recently of an abandoned house and it looked like there was blood around the house. I hope that was animal blood, however, it's still pretty shocking and someone hurting a poor, innocent, defenseless animal indicates what that person could do to a person. 🙁 Sorry about this wall of text.
@wondergranny22992 жыл бұрын
@@PhilipMarcYT I suggested he rescue the TV because that house is left to rot down on top of whatever is in it. There's a difference between rescuing, or saving something and outright theft.

Wow nice find. Almost everything was from the 1950s or before. Except for the 2nd TV. The Zenith TV, it was 1960s, and the car was 1960s too. My guess somebody died in the late 1960s and left everything behind, or maybe they moved to a rest home. Either way the house was left pretty much as is. Except for a few things looted out of it.
@susanmontgomery39682 жыл бұрын
The newspaper would be pre 1996, because that's when that part of the state moved from area code 612 to 320, and Stub's Marine is listed as 612 there. Per Stub's website, they opened in 1972. I looked up the State Farm agency. It's still in the same building, but Schuette is the only agent there now and he looks to be an older gentleman (65+); it was likely a newer group when the paper wrote the article. I'm going to guess the "florist blooming after 69 years" is Anderson's (maps match the photo pretty well.) According to the county records, the house and three buildings went up in 1915. Six more buildings added in 1930. Five green houses were added in 1990 and one in 1994. In comparing the photo in the paper with Google maps and the land records, I'm going to guess the paper is between 1991 and 1993. I can see where they may have written about the "new" greenhouses that went up in '90, but don't think the one from '94 is shown in the photo.
@FarmHunter2 жыл бұрын
Wow!! Thank you for the fantastic detective work!! 😀
@MaxZomboni2 жыл бұрын
That is great research. Unfortunately I think that news paper was planted there at some point. Because everything else in the house looks to be much older then that. .
@susanmontgomery39682 жыл бұрын
I can see where it seems like it may be that way, but I don't think it is. There are two more likely explanations in my mind. (1) It's a paper left over from when they packed up some of the housewares. While a lot was left, it was mainly dated furniture, TVs, and clothing. Not a lot of dishware, food, knick knacks, etc. were left. (2) It was one of the last papers the resident(s) read. I'm in my late 40s now, but my grandparents were likely around the same age as the home owner(s). Three of the four died between 1988 and 1992. One set of grandparents were farmers, and all had been in their teens and early 20's during the Great Depression. They were very thrifty and many of their home items were from the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s (same with my great aunts' places, which I helped pack up -- they had things from the 1940s). They also held onto a few sentimental items from the previous generation. Items, particularly appliances, were also built to last vs. the planned obsolescence many manufacturers have now. So if items were still useful, they kept them. The farm crisis of the 1980s didn't help matters (I'm hesitant to add external links, but I'll do it as a sub-comment, so Farm Hunter can delete it if he prefers), so someone who was already older and who'd been through the 1930s economic downfall would have been extra cautious about spending during the 1980s with the huge drop in farm income. Even there being three TVs in that house would be unusual for the time, but I think it has to do with how good farming was in the 1970s.
@arassnibbor53272 жыл бұрын
@@susanmontgomery3968 I agree! That generation didn’t upgrade things “just because”. They wouldn’t buy a new tv or stove, or anything of the sorts unless it broke and there was no fixing it. Totally plausible this was an elderly person who was content with their outdated appliances and still getting the weekly paper mailed to their house.

Based on the back end of the car and the "script" on the Custom 500 it looks like it is a 72, the taillights are like a 71, but the 71 had a different "script" then the 72. My guess is it is a 1972 Ford Custom 500. The Zenith tv is from the 60s and I know one of the others was older. I had to chuckle, I didn't notice a bath room either and then wondered if they had electricity .and then I remembered...um, they had TVs and you showed the wires on the side of the home at the beginning. So, yeah...but so many old school cool things. :-)
