@pharoahseyes thanks for the input. I am having to restock the pool, as some of the crabs died. When I opened them, they had orange parasites inside. To summarize including your suggestions: 1) Add sand to half of the the pond, and get rid of the debris. 2) Test the salinity of the water .3PPM. 3) Add an air stone to the water. 4) Option. I will use the pool's pump to filter the water through a hydroponic grow bed. B) Add aquatic plants to the surface of the water as a filter. .
@oceanairbrush8 жыл бұрын
1. you need a refractometer to get the salinity correct. 2. if you want to keep marine species alive, might I suggest doing your research on an aquarium forum. 3. theres more to slatwater than just salt, theres trace elements, microbes, bacteria etc which all makes the ecosystem function. Take my advice on number 2, it will save you a lot of time and $$

I like how you are thinking. And this idea isn't too far fetched. There are some large fresh water prawns called RedClaws and they are reportedly a lot easier to farm in the type of setup. Excellent Idea. Did you try again with different ways? By the way, I had a saltwater aquarium and it was not that easy to maintain. Please let us know if you had other trials and how did it go. Thanks for the video.

So I understand that they'll survive in freshwater, but will they only breed in saltwater?
@stevenvillarreal1748 жыл бұрын
yeah marine salt has, for marine livestock, has more elements in it that are required by those animals to survive. walmat salt is not suitable for marine life...im sure the crabs didn't survive long in that water. not to mention if the water is from the tap then it has more things in it that can harm marine life than help it. you need ro/di water for the best results.

it's more expensive, but they sell aquarium salt, which is much better, maybe even necessary for breeding marine creatures. keep in mind young crustaceans start as a plankton type creature, and as they grow they need Calcium compounds to form their exoskeleton(shell). It isn't as simple as what you are showing here, I don't think..

Some points to consider in order to be successful. (1) Mix that sea salt in well. (2) Make sure the pH and water parameters meet living conditions for the crabs. (3) Also monitor the temperature. (4) Give those crabs some places to hide. (5) Get a bubbler or something to not necessarily aerate the water, but to keep the water from being stagnant.

hmmm.. salt water creatures need a fine, delicate, balance of the right salt, ph, ecosystem, foods source. Keep learning you'll get it. Not an easy thing to do. But really should have researched quite a bit more before setting this up. Im sure you'll figure it out.
@nappychef358 жыл бұрын
+Roxanne H Conducting experiments is research and a lot of fun. I hope my videos will encourage others to also experiment. It is ok to make mistakes and its even a lot more fun when other point them out. The Scientific Method of Observation is the best. thanks for commenting.
@Sulfen8 жыл бұрын
+nappychef35 Yea but why re-invent the wheel? There are already science proven ways to properly do it.
@roxanneh24348 жыл бұрын
+nappychef35 Your welcome. As Sulfen says....There is already information about Salt Water Tanks and maintenance for keeping sea creatures alive and well. Best to take THAT info and then work with it and expand upon it. That way the mortality rate is slim to none. Animals that are sick will not produce offspring. It appears your interested in this type of thing and went to great lengths to get it off the ground. Perhaps just start with one pool and get your salinity and ariation and chemical levels where they should be. Sea creatures need a well balanced system in order to survive. Learning about it helps us understand how delicate our wonderful earth is and how we should be doing more to protect it. Happy farming!
@roxanneh24348 жыл бұрын
+Sulfen That's true. : ) No need to suffer through the mistakes. Just read about it. I just think people are not aware of the delicateness of Mother Nature and our beautiful earth. Hence the destructive nature of humans. Glad this guy is figuring it out.
