Hey guys, Hope you enjoy this action packed Farm Life video. In todays vlog, Joaquim and João use their trusty Ford and John Deere tractors to spread rich, composted sheep manure all across our farms fields.

Hi from a fellow South African. Thanks for the informative videos - always enjoy. Just an idea for your narrow gate - add another pedestrian gate where that short fence section - use a drop latch to fix to ground on both gates. The drop latch can go into a short pipe hit into the ground level with ground so not a danger. This will make it easier to go out on your bikes - only need to open small gate. Take care 😊

putting old manure composted is a great way to improve the organic matter in your lands. but you need to cover your lands with some culture all year round. Exposing the land to the sun and winds it harms your fertility in the long term, specially because the very high temperatures in the summer good job done!

Howzit. Love watching daily farm chores and 'boer maak 'n plan' innovation. Was wondering if you could do a video on economics and viability of growing olives Vs cherries Vs sheep and how they can all work together. Would love to know how much income can be derived from each practice. Looking forward to watching more farms for sale too. 😊

I have been watching your amazing contents since you bought this farm and I alway wondered if you had young kids, would you still live in the countryside.
@OKportugalАй бұрын
I imagine it's a good life for a young kid to grow up naturally on a farm where they will learn some useful life skills. But I also think that when they get older into their teens, they might feel like they are missing out on socialising, the life they see on TV or social media. I do know quite a few adults who grew up on farms, and all of them have said that they very fond memories if their special childhoods on the farm. Personally I think its healthier to be out in the peace and quiet of the countryside. I don't think its healthy for us to be crammed in small apartments or neighbourhoods without suffering mentally or physically in some way.

7:38 actually properly composed stuff don't contain any living seeds or insects. the heat during composting process will kill all of them.
@insAneTunAАй бұрын
Actually the bars on the floor from the manure spreader move backwards, dragging the manure towards the spreaders. Manure spreaders like this have been used for a long time, even before there were machine powered manure spreaders. In the early days they were powered by horses, or donkeys. The entire mechanism was connected to the rear wheels by a shaft and a series of sprockets, and as it was pulled forward by the animals the driver could engage the mechanism and then it would do the same thing as the relative modern machine powered manure spreaders. The preferred temperature from the manure is give or take between 40C and 60C. At least that is the ideal temperature for destroying unwanted seeds and harmful pathogens. You can buy specialized compost thermometers with an extra long probe to measure the inside temperature from the pile, they look like the thermometers that are used for cooking and grilling meat. It can indeed get much hotter, but like you said that can be dangerous as it can start a fire. But the entire composting process happens by micro organisms that like different temperatures. The micro organisms that prefer hotter temperatures and basically destroy the pathogens and unwanted seeds are not the same micro organisms as the organisms that prefer lower temperatures. But they all have their own functionality during the composting process. Quite frankly it is a rather complicated process that requires a multitude of micro organisms and external conditions. Air is also an important factor, as well as the carbon rich material and the moisture levels. Micro organisms don't like UV light or rapid changing or big fluctuating temperatures or big fluctuating moisture levels. They very much like constant conditions to their environment. That is why the outside from the pile is always less composted. It was enjoyable to watch, so thanks for sharing. 👍
@OKportugalАй бұрын
Thanks for the insights, very interesting :)
@insAneTunAАй бұрын
@@OKportugal I always tell people, if you learn how to farm the micro organisms, and what conditions they prefer and what destroys them. Then you get much better results and yields above the ground when you apply what you have learned about the micro organisms. Basically a good farmer changes the mindset to farming micro organisms instead of anything else. If that goes well, then anything else above the ground grows well too. 👍

Fantastic but what happens if your neighbor retires and no more sheep ?.love the video thanks.
@OKportugalАй бұрын
Thanks David, life will be a lot simpler as we wont need to tractor the fields. I could just mow them like I do already with the olive groves, vineyards and the areas around the farmhouse. We have lots of natural wildflowers and green manures that pop up on their own, so I would just need to keep them cut for the summer fire season. All of this tractor work, tilling, planting, is only done to grow the special grasses and cereals for Joaquim's sheep.

@OKportugalАй бұрын
I think this new audio translation feature of KZbin has a bug because a lot of people are complaining that my video is playing in a foreign language. KZbin released a new feature where they automatically dub videos into other languages. You can change the language of the video by clicking on the video settings and selecting "original audio". Look on the bottom right of the video screen on PC, or top right on mobile, and select the round "gear" icon to change the settings. Then select the original audio track to play it in English as i recorded it. Hopefully KZbin will fix this bug soon as lots of people are complaining about it! I think that KZbin sees your country and devices setting as Portuguese and then plays the video dubbed into Brazilian Portuguese. Its not something I am doing. I only make my videos in English.

KZbin did this dubbing on my video without telling me 😅 lots of people have complained about it. You can change the audio language in the video but I think a lot of people don't know how to do it. Also it's dubbed it into brazilian portuguese and not portugals portuguese.
