To my experience, all mushrooms have always said, "Pay attention to your life. And they would retain a higher degree of biodegradability. How durable do we need a single-use item to be? I suspect it's a moisture thing. If it's vertical, you run the risk of the moisture settling to the bottom, after condensing at the top. That's a gradient which makes the fungi struggle harder to grow, rather than put energy into its fruiting bodies, which is the part we sell, buy, and eat.

Its a bit difficult. You can grow some mushrooms in reusable buckets instead of bags, but then there is a lot of work with cleaning them so you wont see many companies using them. There are some that use bottles, but you need an automated cleaning line to make it efficient which means its only used on a very large scale

I imagine a process where the substrate is in a container. After harvest a new layer of substrate is added on top and the bottom layer will be disposed. The mycelium grows in the top layer and a new cycle begins.
