Hi Michael. To be honest I’m not sure. It may be that the first one was on hire or under contract. The second machine is giving them a lot of work, I think as they are still picking now...

very late to this comment, but who knows if you might read this. The first machine has a lot of capacity and its pro's are that it can always get the beet out (even in bad weather). It also harvests in front of the wheels, so it's a good machine to 'open up' the field, so you can get in with tractors. The cons of this machine are that it's very heavy (so soil damage) and expensive. Often only contractors or really big farms can afford these. The second machine is smaller, lighter and can only harvest half of the rows the big one can. You also have to ride next to it with the tractor, so not good for opening the field up. When farmers have the small machine, they'll often try to do everything with it. But we often let the contractor open up the field with the big machine, which goes 3 times faster than with our own smaller one, and after that we try to do it ourselves. But sometimes the weather forecast is really bad and you just need to have some capacity. Then you call in the cavalry!
