An ever-growing demand for fresh seafood has pushed wild fish stocks around the world to the brink. In Florida, scientists and other experts are farming the sea in an attempt to alleviate some of these fishing pressures. “Aquaculture,” or “fish farming,” is the cultivation of marine or freshwater organisms. Some aquaculture methods have been highly criticized for their negative environmental impacts, but other, more environmentally friendly techniques, are being perfected at various research institutions in Florida.
Changing Seas travels from coast to coast, meeting with experts who raise fish for food production and to replenish depleted wild populations. Learn how scientists are making it possible to grow marine fish miles away from shore, and discover which Florida research facilities are testing new methods for making aquaculture more environmentally sustainable and efficient. Also visit Cedar Key, Florida, where aquaculture has helped to preserve the area’s rich fishing heritage. Here, former gillnet fishermen turned clam-farmers harvest their product with little impact to the local ecosystems.

Shellfish farming can be sustainable. Farming fish that are fed fishmeal from wild caught fish is not sustainable. It's filthy.

How about using waste from the processing of Asiatic carp, that is starting up as an industry to deal with their numbers in the Mississippi, to make food for the growing of the Pompano fry depicted in this video at 16:05?

How about using the waist water from pompano to produce algae to feed the oysters which then filter it, or to feed kelp or sea weed like fresh water aquaponics. Is that a possibility?
@mynameisnotcory

Roy John Watt its what i’m doing in my garage right now...not with pompano yet but as soon as the fry price goes down at proaquatix i plant to have a 3 stage pompano/macroalgae/sea urchin/oyster recirculation system. It works. I just have to scale it

Well, cross over the east coast and the gulf redfish to add genetic variety to the stock, capture wild fish and breed them in tanks and then release that breeders back into the wild, I know I'm not saying a new suggestion, but they were just talking about inbreeding and limiting the genetic diversity as a worry, so, every year or season, start with new breeding stock and dont just use the same base pairs all the time or rotate half of the breeders out with new wild ones not farm raised and tagged , right? Those big ones survived in the wild to reach breeding size, and passed through all sorts of hardships.. and have you ever thought of the BIG genetics Reds from Places like Hatteras and the outer banks and such also and seeing their cross breed survivability in warmer waters like Florida and the Gulf states?

Filtrazione alone is a big impact of cost effective of Acqua farming,why they are imposing the development and research area away from the Ocean,they should transfer the fascility nearer to the main water so that they can get a water more efficient and less Energy consume and less pollution impact of the Planet. And if the used more Energy of there fascility and equipment should used solar and wave harvester. To innovate more and help filtrazione more on the water and have a sustainable way of farming they must intruduce the seaweeds culture in order to protect the water and equilibrate the temperature of the Ocean it can help more in enhancing water density,salinity and acidity of the water so that we can save the artificial filtration device and have a sustainable way of acqua culture and improve our future generation.

“A lot less regulation in other countries” Same reason we should limit all overseas purchases from countries that allow industries to do there what we don’t allow here, including use of certain herbicides and fungicides, destroying vast tracts of coastal land or rainforest, slavery, dumping of trash into the oceans, overfishing, dumping of hazmat into waterways, etc…..
