Great informative video, John.Thanks for all the really great tips for a portable brooder! The peat moss bedding is something that I would like to try. p.s. I just want to mention that I think the second hitch type you have listed on that fact sheet at 4:50 is supposed to read "taut line hitch". ;-)

I'm really surprised you don't use an Ohio Brooder set up. When I tried to design something like yours, I couldn't keep the heat up high enough even under the lamp (in April when it was staying kind of cold this spring). After asking on a Pastured Poultry Facebook group (which I've found to be much easier to use than the APPPA forums), to be overwhelming suggestion was an Ohio Brooder. This worked wonderfully. This simply allowed the chicks to regulate their own temperature and I have to believe it was more energy efficient. Have you ever toyed with this style of brooder, or more specifically...heat lamp configuration?

Hi John, please tell your friends (Dave and Ginger with the mobile brooder) that if they rig a hitch to the front of their tractor it is easier to push a steerable running gear into place.
