Saved to watch; Liked before I've even seen it! (after a day working on my rear apron, its a change to watch a craftsman work on the other end of a bug!).

The early 4-tab hoods are always cracked and rusty. I spent a lot of time on my my hood, and now it's got another crack 🙁. Thank you for the video!👍

especially early 4 tab 5 hole with the extra hole for the hood prop only on early 55 and earlier hoods.

Great job. I love the videos and am now subscribed. I've learned alot while building my 71 beetle, building a 71 beetle on a s10 frame with a 350 in the front. A older man showed me that while replaceing rotten areas on the car that are flat make the edges round, this was different at first but it is alot easier now. For example by your emblem, instead off hard corners on the patch, round them and round the corners on the patch, takes some time to make a good fitting patch but it welds so much easier for me instead of the hard corner.

Glad you distinguish this car by labeling your video as EARLY 55. An early is way more desirable than the 55-57s.

Hey Mike since you have done videos on upholstering your single cab and bus, can you tell me how many yards of vinyl you need for a bus with 3 seats (front side and back side) ? Thanks
@Walkercolt13 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry, but that looks like a BIG oval rear window, so that's well after 1955 (1960???). 1955's had SMALL oval rear windows, and I mean SMALL, about 1/3 as big as the window in the body you're showing. We had a 1300cc (single carb "36 HP") dull grey one canvas roof (sunroof). It was dull grey from the dealership. It also had split SLIDING front windows, not roll-down windows. '56's got roll-down windows as an option and all '57's had roll-down front windows in the US. '55's did not have sealed beam headlights stock. Loose bulbs in reflectors and glass bubbles over the lenses (DIN style Head and tail lights glass lenses). Imported by Brown and somebody in Paramus(?),New Jersey until '57 models. My High School Chemistry teacher brought back from Occupied Germany a 1949 1100cc split-window Black Beetle as a GI. He was still driving it in 1971! Single exhaust pipe "28 DIN HP" no heater stoves, brakelight in middle of trunk ("AULT") and his had no back seat installed, just a plywood shelf.

Are you sure you are referring to an oval window 'sedan' like Mike has? The oval window that is 1/3 the size of the sedan oval window is for a convertible. Otherwise all oval rear windows are identical in size from 1953-1957. 1958 was the first year of the larger rear window. As well, the 1300cc engine was released in 1966. Otherwise, you had a 1200cc between ~1953-1959.

Not sure what video you all were watching but is it just me or is that welding hella rough?
@Mikefngarage3 жыл бұрын
that is not an 18 gauge car it is thinner harder to get perfect welds without burning holes.
