In the mid 60's I drove a '54 oval window VW from Germany to the south of France and back again. The study little car handled the autobahn of Germany as well as it did the mountains of Switzerland and northern Italy. The little bug took a tour of the race course in Monaco before going back home. Good luck with your project

Love watching you work. You do everything ‘Old School’ like me. No tattoos, big beards or weird hats on trying to be cool. Just high end work being done on a low budget. Coming along so nice, can’t wait to see the oval painted!

One of the things My Auto teacher was Adamant about is No long hair, no beards, no hanging clothing. It all gets caught in the machinery or burned. All safety hazards.

Really appreciate the way you get down to business. My goal isn't a show car but a daily driver. Its been years since my last vw so I am anxious to get it on the street. My friends and I are in our 70s and don't get in a big hurry. Really enjoy the videos.

There's something you usually don't see. Mike on the floor welding up. It's amazing how you bring back parts that look so bad.
@Mikefngarage2 жыл бұрын
that apron was totally tweaked. yea your right it was much worse than most people would think. Once I welded in pieces I could actually pound it more straight. at the very end I had the porta power pushing it out then I welded the undersides so it would keep its shape.

Watching the magic happen ! That apron moved like cooked spaghetti.

Hey Mike...I'm finishing up a 60' Beetle project right now. I used a Spot sand blast gun (The kind with a little hopper on the gun at Harbor Freight) with soda media and blasted inside the engine vent area. Scuffed what I could reach by hand before I sealed it. It turned out really well! And only took about an hour to strip 3 coats of paint inside all the little vents! This car is coming along faster than I thought! You're inspiring to get to my 55'!!! Thanks!

The KG is coming along nice and on the parts video you did I had saved up enough for a 90.5 and big valve head kit and bingo we all caught the COVID . So the parts $ became the bill $. I am starting a new piggy bank. + I need to see if there is anyone down here that bores the case, without going to S.A. There was a man here in Inglesde that did it . but by now if he is still alive he would be in his 90s.

My recently purchased '63 has the tailpipe cutouts covered over similar to what you did there. I didn't think about it being for more stiffness, just thought it was because it had custom exhaust on it before.

Like your no non sense way of restoring vehicles. You go straight to it. Most of these cars are drivers and not Concourse vehicles. Getting them in the road quickly is great! That’s what I am doing with my 68 Mustang! Thank you!

Just curious, Mike. Why do you sand as opposed to blasting or chemical stripping?
@Mikefngarage2 жыл бұрын
blasting is so messy. I do use chemical but still need to sand at the end.

That looks like an H apron...did someone cut out the exhaust cut outs for a later muffler?
@Mikefngarage2 жыл бұрын
yea early H apron. with no holes. someone must have cut it out at some point for pee shooters.
