If you have read the comic books, it alludes to the fact D'Argo survived. Plus I wouldn't call his and Chiana's time a love story considering she slept with his son to get revenge with him.

Comic books are not canon (not approved by the creator). Typically if a show gets restarted, the events happening in comics & novels are ignored .

She slept with his son because she was young and got scared by the sudden knowledge that Ka D'argo was planning to propose marriage to her along with settling down together on a farm somewhere. Being young and very immature, Chiana couldn't handle it and couldn't handle what she felt at the time to be a restraint on her freedom. As she often stated "I do what I want", so she did and it cost her dearly. Immature people often pay very, very dear prices for what they do in life.
