One of the darkest, most graphic and mature episodes, tackling issues such as betrayal and self-harm. But, indisputably, one of the best. Great puppeteering, character development and excellent cinematography, almost black and white, during the flashbacks, with only just a tint of blue and gray and, occasionally, red. And the writing is nothing short than amazing: “Look up, what do you see?”. “The stars”. “That’s what I offer you”. Chills!

It is a dark one and among the top for character development. Farscape has the best character development in all of the cinema, and this episode proves that.

34:38 what hit me the most was, that his reaction was so soft. It somehow corresponds with John´s reaction to the story 34:59. Very sensitive story writing and acting. Irresistable. You just have to empathize.

Very strong fascistic vibes at the start.

Next you are gonna tell me the Empire in Star Wars is inspired by fascist regimes! ... The Peacekeepers are clearly meant as such. "Peace and Order" no matter the price, everyone has to serve the cause, no individualism allowed. Cruel and without empathy, torture not just as a horririble tool for the goals but also just for the sake of it. Believing every other species to be inferior and worthless. But also corrupt and incompetent and blind to the truth. Just like the fascist were and very much still are. Which is part of why this episode is so great. It deals with the guilt and grief these people and their ideologies leave behind. How they make monsters out of normal people. And how these people struggle with what they have done, if they ever get the chance to realize the error in their ways. As a german, I can tell you I really wish they all would have gone through such a process. The world would be a better place, unrecognizably better even. Sadly repressing their memories and telling themselves that they are not to blame was all most of them ever did. Broken men, full with guilt, hate and suffering until the days they died.
