My negatives list from using it for about 2 weeks: - The screen looks grainy - objects 20 feet away are blurry AF - the refresh rate is too low so when you move your head the windows jitter - you can’t look at your phone while it’s on (impossible to read text) - it’s heavy over time and hurts your face eyes and neck - I can’t have more than one laptop virtual monitor to work on at a time - windows can’t size bigger than about 50 inches - the personas are scary looking - the front screen showing your eyes just doesn’t show your eyes as advertised - the field of view makes it look like your peering through a tunnel - the edges of the tunnel are blurry AF - I feel like a bad father when I have it on around my kids - I make tons of unintentional clicks because it thinks I pintched my fingers when I didn’t. - the eye tracking is not good enough. Works 90% of the time but it needs to be 99%. - it’s $4000 you know not a huge list but 😜

Yes, I'd rather have a headset that has a giant 8K screen, that's cheaper than an 8K monitor, and comfortable to wear for the duration of a film or an evening, and yet doesn't have unnecessary fluff and also have some AR sunglasses that help me around the world in various ways. For either to work though, you need killer apps and no-one has one yet, just lots of tiny things that are kind of nice but not convincing enough.

I agree with you - poor low light and fade pressure no matter how many different things I tried with both straps and different size lite shields - uncomfortable- I am going to get 2 new iPhones, some home pods, the next coming iPad Pro, the over the ear headphones and maybe even a mac book air with the $4,500 I won’t use for Vision Pro- it wasn’t the money though - it was those 2 issues the most that indicated to me I won’t end up using it long term. Many other issues that software may fix soon. I like my XR glasses a lot and they are great for watching movies and shows on a huge high def screen in lighting or location. I agree it’s “something on my face and head” - too much barrier to even get started I just pick up my iPad and/or add my XReal glassss that are fairly comfortable- when they make AR/spatial computing completely comfortable and no hassle on and off with easy fit - like new Sony VR coming has even a flip up for thr screen and shield function - flip up flip down - even that as it wouldn’t rely on squashing the face at checks for me was the issue - for a fit -Apple could have done a far better headset ergo design AND a true custom light shield or even NO light shield (I liked it with it off but too heavy on nose then). Option for custom fit light shield at a minimum - I needed the option for less cheek pressure even after going from 23W to 21W - no shield with a lighter device would have been a good option to have… As far as price - I don’t care if it’s $10,000 if it’s comfy and easy to get on and off and like you said better OS and apps - it really is amazing to try out and I am grateful to Apple for the chance to have a trial - that was cool. Zero friction on return process - NO questions asked -

The quest is great but all standalone headsets have too much hardware weighing down your face. If only the headset part was purely the screen and everything else was done on the waist part. If it was just a device that plugged into your phone that was purely good at doing the visuals and headtracking. Even putting some hardware on the back on your head to even the weight would help.

@WOojerVest3andQuest3onMe It's funny you mention that because I am learning how to do animation in VR and AR so this concept is right up my alley. One ideal I've had for few years is the concept of augmented reality playsets. So let's say for example you bought a Teenage Muntent Ninja Turtles toy and scanned or typed in a QR code into a VR or AR glasses app and were able to a load up a virtual playsets from the show which would include the Turtles home, a rooftop, pizza shop,etc. Now here's were things get interesting. Imagine their were story missions that you could play with some being included by default and new ones being tied to new toy releases or DLC. I could go on and on with this but I think get the basic ideal.

@sonicsnake44 Yeah, that sounds cool. Gives the Toys meaning. And reason to play with em more. AR/ MR as so much potential. Can you imagine hasbro making a Mixed Reality Monopoly plus, or better yet, all of there board games in mixed reality. Just DLC and you have a New Game to play with Family and Friends. Without the Mess to clean up. Plus. The games could have animation. Just like the video game consoles version but in your living room... It would be so cool to play this way.

I'm on the opposite of that... I'm waiting for Apple to catchup to Meta and its use cases before I would be willing to pay that price. There are many different things you can do with the Quest 3 that you can't do on the Apple... and the Quest 3 is far more comfortable and lighter. Unlike Apple, the Quest has a large user base so there are so many different inexpensive 3rd party types of head-mounting solutions for it. There's not a single "Halo" style head strap for the Apple which takes ALL the pressure off your face and balances the weight between your forehead and back of your head... to me, that's the most comfortable. Apple being significantly heavier than the Quest... truly needs a Halo style strap!

You just want more powerful headset, but that has also problems: - more heat need transferred away, need huge heatsink and fan = heavier - make it even more smaller and lighter with powerful cpu to run like Premiere Pro? Impossible, not in future tech. You're not thinking in real way. Headsets must not more heavier and hotter. Nobody want break their necks for it. Be happy the hottest part is moved to your iMac, and only display is transferred to your headset. I agreed the Apple is thinking too much about comfort site and forgot there are people who want work longer or play / watch longer than 3 hours. This headset cannot do it. It's tech masterpiece, that is true, but it doesn't fulfill everything and it's not made for gaming. Most headsets are made for gaming.

I don't think the messy reproduction of the reality is just something that can be fixed with cameras. What might be missing is actually the depth focus. Oculus, before bought by Facebook, was experimenting with depth focus in combination with foveated rendering and both might be actually relevant technologies here. The real VR goggles, actually on the market are now gradually implementing foveated rendering, but no one has revisited the depth focus so far. @bujin54557 ай бұрын
It would be nice if they could have done better with the passthrough, but that is an unbelievably difficult problem to grapple with. We probably will not see rapid improvement with this particular feature. Unless someone figures out how to put super lightweight 35mm sensors on the device and related optical stack. They simply can't gather enough light for the amount of area they are sampling, and sensor technology is not improving very fast at all. Like you have to go through several generations of sensors just to see a 50% improvement in light sensitivity. I think this device is probably going to be on a 3 - 5 year update cycle, so it's going to take a minute to get to gen 4. However, with that said, the sensors are not on a 3 year cycle, so passthrough might be meaningfully improved by gen two or three.
@jonevansauthor7 ай бұрын
I don't get it... camera tech is amazing and is better every single year, if not twice a year, in every single flagship. So... what's the sensor problem? We've even had lidar in phones. Not that I think it matters since the killer app is the one and only thing that makes any VR or AR glasses/headset a widely viable product and three of those would be better.
@rukiddingme77 ай бұрын
I think the passthrough is a compromise due to battery. I wish Apple allow us to choose brightness like on the iPhone. I can max brightness on the phone and have 4 hours battery life. On Vision, it may reduce it to 45 minutes.
@bujin54557 ай бұрын
@@jonevansauthor like what camera tech are you talking about? If you think camera tech is better than what you see in the AVP, it's because you don't understand the difference in applications in which you're seeing that tech. First, the AVP is using smart phone sized sensors. These sensors are absolute garbage in low light. Now when you take still images on an iPhone, Apple does a lot of trickery, to get around that, which you can do with AI and increasing exposure time. In video this get's much more difficult. If you take a photo at dusk and a video at dusk, you'll see the stark difference in the number of artifacts in the image. Now bare in mind, that video has a lot of processing done to it, and it's being shot at a comparatively low frame rate (24 - 30 fps), meaning there is more time to gather light for each frame (as compared to the AVP, but not as compared to a still). It's worth considering that 24fps is 41ms per frame, and 30fps is 33ms per frame. The threshold where people start feeling sick is about 13ms, that means you need to be shooting at 77fps or higher, which is only going to give you less than half as much light as 30fps. The AVP is trying really heard to minimize latency, which in part means high shutter speeds, and less light, which means more noise. Try taking slow motion video at dusk (60 - 120fps), and see what your video looks like from your iPhone, specially when you blow it up on a full sized screen (like how you'd see it in a headset). This light issue is part of the reason Apple only provided 6MP cameras on the AVP, even though the displays are ~12MP. Of course, this difference in resolution, is why things never look sharp, even when there is a lot of light. A 6MP image on a 12MP display is simply never going to look sharp. But the reason they went with 6MP is because the more MP you shove into a given sized space, the less light each pixel will receive, as you are only slicing the pie in ever smaller chunks to get more slices of pie, but that doesn't increase the amount of pie (light) you have. That means if you double the MP, you half the amount of light per pixel (assuming the same sized sensor), which means low light performance is half as good. So Apple could have put a higher resolution sensor in there, for sure, but the low light performance would be even worse. Worse low light performance doesn't just mean the image is just that much worse when you're in a dark room, it means you start feeling that effect in brighter environments than you otherwise would have. Ok, now that we've discussed some of the basics of this topic, consider the fact professional photographers and videographers use 35mm sensors, which are 36mm x 24mm (864sq/mm), whereas your iPhone sensor is only 5.76mm by 4.29mm (24.7104/mm). That means that 35mm sensor is taking in 36x as much light! Let me say that again, **THIRTY-SIX TIMES** as much light as your iPhone! Even so, photographers and videographers use large and bulky lighting rigs to get enough light on their subjects, so that they don't get motion blur and/or ISO artifacts. And again, they aren't working with low latency 77fps+ video feeds. If you're not impressed with the AVP's video, it's because you don't really understand how hard the problem is. And like I said before, sensor technology is not improving all that fast. Yes, there are new sensors all the time that make incremental improvements here and there, but it takes something like six full generations of sensor tech to double the light performance, and a full generation takes more than a year to complete. Like you can take DSL-Rs that are nearly 10 years apart, and the sensor MIGHT have double the low light performance. Mostly what you see is people jacking up the ISO, and getting more and more creative about their noise filters. But noise filtering can only do so much, if the light didn't tell the sensor what was there, then you're not going to see the object.

I will never buy one of these. I dont want a world where people are walking around with them on. It just seems like one more layer between me and others and hand held devices already do that enough

I Apple Vision Pro is going in the wrong direction. I think they should have gone the direction of XReal/Magic Leap AR glasses not Meta/Oculus bulky headset. Hopefully they course correct before its too late. The Chinese AR Glasses OEMs could overtake the AR glasses/headset market and leave Apple in the dust in this area.
@farzyness7 ай бұрын
I think both technologies will converge somewhere in between. Apple's biggest advantage, by far, is its ecosystem. Once they can start flexing it, they'll be insanely successful.

VR will be something headsets can do, that AR glasses can't. And having a fully immersive VR experience still has value and benefit.

Predictable. I hope you can make it all back with one video and more! But hey, maybe you could make an app that's relevant to Tesla or something? Combine with Two Bit Da Vinci or something and make an app that helps with solar installs or identifies weak points around the home that could be targets for upgrades to go net zero?

Good news for the people with ear buds sticking out of their ears. People wearing these headsets in public will make them seem normal.

The weight balance is a problem until you find the right strap…. VR/AR will come into its own, but as a VR enthusiast, it’s coming only once it’s as easy as putting on a pair of sunglasses.

Wound up with 18 months of neck issues from my quest 2. Required x rays and physio.

Gonna return mines too. It’s too heavy. Hurts the neck. I need it for 4 hours a day minimum. I like it for reading and researching. I even bought a neck support but it’s steal a nuisance to wear. Eventually after months of use for extended periods it may even cause neck injuries, Not a joke. In Biden voice. 😅

Not until they come up with a non invasive brain control interface. Implanting chips will be a non starter for a great many people.

As I indicated elsewhere, you have proven the point that many make that the device is simply too expensive for most people. This causes artificial demand in my opinion. Often people buy things that they cannot afford only to have buyers remorse afterwards as they look for excuses on why the product was not as advertised. The reality is that the Apple Vision Pro does everything Apple says it would
@andromedach7 ай бұрын
our family have different vision correction prescriptions and we would all need separate lens inserts to use one effectively and that is the real issue with this product, it is an Apple product that inherently not an easily shared experience unlike Mac, iPad, and even iPhone. What many are waiting for are the volumetric displays they see in science fiction and technologies that one day will allow us to easily swipe from our phones to any available display for easier use of the content
